HVAC Supervisor
The Opportunity: In our contemporary world, an HVAC supervisor performs arguably the most essential functions of trades work; ensuring all building spaces are properly and adequately conditioned. This position performs critical diagnostics, repair, and maintenance, and is also involved in forward-thinking capital project planning. The skillsets required for this position are a complex blend of educational and vocational training combined with soft skills such as cross-departmental planning and communication. This position also serves as the primary lead and trainer of lower-level maintenance mechanics, ensuring the desired knowledge, skills, and traits are taught to employees. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position working 40 hours per week, onsite at the Mount Vernon campus.
The Location: Skagit Valley College is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish People's, especially on Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, Samish Indian Nation, Nooksack Indian Tribe, and Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe. Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance Supervision
- Plans, organizes, and directs the work of maintenance mechanics engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing, heating, water, cooling, refrigeration, sewer, and fire suppression systems, steam distribution systems, commercial air-conditioning (environmental) equipment, air handling units, and pneumatic/electronic/electrical or mechanical control systems;
- Performs, trains, guides, and directs skilled HVAC work on such plant equipment as boilers, chillers, pumps, and controls.
Capital Planning and Projects
- Review specifications, blueprints, and submittals for capital planning and projects;
- Provide meaningful input and feedback for all capital planning documentation to align with sustainable and resiliency at the District level.
Preventive Maintenance Program
- Develops, conducts, and leads a preventative maintenance program for assigned machinery and equipment
- Continuous review of daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and biannual preventative maintenance tasks within the work order management system;
- Update fixed assets to reflect accurate information at all times.
Resource Planning
- Consults with appropriate resources to plan, estimate, and execute projects; requisitions materials and equipment;
- Creating estimates for building improvement requests, the repairs, modifications, and additions of equipment.
Personnel Training
- Assist with planning, organizing, and direction of training for assigned personnel;
- Review and recommend routine safety training utilizing multiple platforms;
- Assist in demonstrating and presenting safety materials to the team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of WISHA and OSHA regulations pertaining to the HVAC trade, National Electric Code, and local jurisdictional codes;
- Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the theory, principles, methods, and techniques used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC equipment;
- Demonstrated computer skills in email, Microsoft Office Suite applications, and work order management systems;
- Demonstrated knowledge in the utilization of a DDC control system;
- Ability to communicate effectively and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, drawings, specifications, and construction documents;
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose HVAC problems, communicate findings, procure appropriate components, and make timely repairs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in refrigeration or steamfitter trades and five (5) years of experience as an HVAC technician;
OR
- Seven (7) years of applicable experience in performing the work in refrigeration or the steamfitter trade, or a combination of the two (2). Vocational or trade school training as an HVAC technician or refrigeration mechanic will substitute, year for year, for work experience up to a maximum of two (2) years;
OR
- Completion of a recognized program for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and three (3) years of journey-level experience as an HVAC technician.
AND
- Valid Washington State driver's license;
- Possession, or ability to possess within 6 months of hire, an EPA 608 Universal Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five (5) or more years of journey-level experience in HVAC and/or refrigeration trades.
Salary, Benefits, Conditions of Employment, Application Procedure, About SVC
Salary and Benefits: Salary is based on Range 54G Step G, $5,928 per month with periodic increments to $6,708 per month. Starting salary may be dependent on education, qualifications, and experience. Salary and benefits are subject to change in accordance with legislative mandates and collective bargaining agreements.
- This position is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and is dependent upon continued grant funding.
- This is a union-represented position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
