Registered Nurse - Surgery - Full Time 10 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Union)

Role Overview As an integral member of the patient care team, the Registered Nurse supports the Chief Nursing Officer in leading the patient care team in providing for the safety, recovery and comfort of patients by implementing the nursing process (assessment, nursing diagnosis, developing the plan of care and the education plan; implementation of interventions, evaluation of interventions and revision of plan as needed); and provides education and advocacy. Key Responsibilities Supports the Chief Nursing Officer in leading the patient care team, implementing the nursing process: assessment, nursing diagnosis, developing the plan of care and education plan; implementing interventions, evaluating and revising as needed; provides education and advocacy. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements including CMS Conditions of Participation, Title22, CDPH regulations, DNV-GL/NIAHO standards, etc. Supports the department manager and director in quality improvement and growth of unit services; leads collaboration with co‑workers and other departments; manages efficient services to achieve meaningful outcomes. Decision‑making authority: provides patient care within scope of practice, uses patient classification decision‑making methods; makes judgments and decisions based on assessments; accountable for safe passage and healing environment; prevents harm; educates patients on their condition and self‑care; reports abnormal findings; provides comfort and compassion. Executive functions: assists the charge nurse with shift care planning; contributes to overall unit planning and improvement; directs precepting and competency validation of new hires and new procedures; teaches nursing students; delegates to RNs, LVNs, CNAs; coordinates assigned team; communicates expectations to staff (interventions, report back, etc.); follows chain of command for improvement opportunities; handles unusual events; other duties as assigned. Minimum Education & Experience Graduation from a Registered Nurse Program; BSN desired (if not upon hire, will obtain within 5years). Minimum 1year clinical experience in an acute care setting; preferred experience in treating orthopaedic and stroke patient populations. Specialty Experience (if applicable) Cardiac Cath Lab Nurses: 1year nursing experience in an acute care setting (ICU, stepdown, or ER) preferred; 1+year IR, EP, or Cardiac Cath Lab experience preferred. 6th Floor Med/Surg Employees: Two years’ experience with orthopaedic and medical‑surgical nursing preferred; certification in medical‑surgical, orthopaedic or other specialty preferred. Licensure & Certifications California Registered Nurse License; clinical specialty or management certification desirable. Surgery: BLS, ACLS PACU/SDS/GI Lab: BLS, ACLS, PALS Cath Lab: BLS, ACLS ED: BLS, ACLS, PALS, AB508, NIHSS, NRP, ENPC (within specified timeframes) Geropsych: BLS, AB508 ICU/5S, 4th Telemetry, 6th MedSurg and Float Pool: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS All certifications must be active effective date of hire/transfer; BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP must be AHA certified.
