About the Position

Patient types include those with chest pain, post catheterization lab patients, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and stroke assessments. The average patient stay is approximately 36 hours. On average, the nurse will admit and discharge 2-3 patients daily. During night shifts, the nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:6-8. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse with a lighter patient assignment, a unit secretary available 24/7, and hospitalists present 24/7. Respiratory therapy and telemetry monitoring are provided around the clock. Experience in admissions and discharges is preferred, as well as working in a fast-paced environment. Basic skills required include drip management for medications such as heparin and insulin. Most patients are ambulatory, and the nurse should be comfortable with handling some drains. Nurses must document pain levels before and after administering medications, ensuring proper medication orders align with patient pain levels. Facility adheres to a policy that limits staff to a maximum of 60 hours per week and no more than 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts. There is a holiday expectation of working one holiday per season. Scrub color is flexible, with certain exceptions.
