This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, overseeing engineering teams while driving the delivery of modern AI, cloud, and software engineering initiatives. This position is delivery-focused and requires a strong technical background.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.Design and deliver scalable AI and cloud-based solutions, including LLM-based applications, agents, and RAG pipelines.Establish and enforce engineering best practices for code quality, security, and operations in a regulated environment.Partner with business and technology leaders to define project roadmaps and ensure successful outcomes.Conduct code reviews and maintain a hands-on technical depth, guiding architectural decisions.Manage agile delivery processes, using metrics to ensure accountability for timelines and quality.Oversee the development and operation of solutions in a HIPAA-regulated environment, ensuring data privacy and security controls.Required QualificationsA minimum of 10 years in software engineering, with at least 2-3 years of direct management experience.Experience in the healthcare industry is required; payer-side experience is acceptable.Demonstrated hands-on technical depth with the ability to review and discuss code and architecture.Production experience delivering AI or machine learning solutions, such as LLM-based applications, NLP systems, or RAG pipelines.Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, including compute, data, identity, and monitoring services.Proficiency in Python and experience with at least one other language such as Java, TypeScript, or Go.Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and DevOps practices.Experience building and operating solutions within a HIPAA-regulated environment.Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Preferred QualificationsExperience with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, and agent orchestration frameworks like LangGraph.Background in contact center technology, IVR, conversational AI, or patient messaging platforms.Experience with AI governance, model risk management, and bias testing.Experience managing a combination of full-time, vendor, or offshore engineering teams.Technical SkillsCloud: Azure App Service, Azure Functions, AKS, Azure API Management, Azure Storage, Azure SQL or Cosmos DB, Key Vault, Entra ID.AI: Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, prompt engineering, agent orchestration, vector databases, LLM tracing, and observability.Data: SQL, data pipelines, Databricks or Microsoft Fabric, and healthcare data models.Engineering: Git, Azure DevOps or GitHub, Terraform or Bicep, Docker, and automated testing.Observability: Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Grafana, or equivalent APM tooling.Security and Compliance: HIPAA, HITECH, PHI de-identification, role-based access control, and audit logging.Everforth Apex is a world-class IT services company that serves thousands of clients across the globe.
