Lead Engineer

This position is located in Professional St. Paul, MN, US. Summary We are hiring a Lead Engineer on the Private Water/Wastewater Team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of industrial water and wastewater projects—including food and beverage facilities, pharmaceuticals, petroleum, plating, mining, manufacturing, and biogas/energy facilities—while mentoring junior team members and ensuring technical success across projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Act as an individual contributor, exercising professional judgment to direct and independently complete assigned engineering designs. Assist or act as Project Manager, assigning tasks and schedules to staff, answering questions, and monitoring progress. Verify the accuracy of tasks completed by engineering and technical staff through formal and informal QA/QC. Make major design decisions that satisfy external customer needs, coordinating impacts on related project efforts. Proactively identify technical, schedule, or financial issues and seek resolution from the Project Manager and/or client. Assist the Client in bidding or contractor selection when authorized by the Project Manager. Monitor construction and supervise field personnel assigned to tasks or data collection. Respond to contractor questions and issues, preparing and issuing project addenda as needed. Recommend and prepare change orders. Participate in the creation of engineering service proposals, including time schedule estimation and cost calculations for proposed work. Sign and seal engineering documents as an authorized representative of the company. Serve as technical expert on assigned projects when acting as an individual contributor, and as Project Manager on projects as assigned. Education and Experience Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, with professional registration (P.E.) in one or more states where the company does business (or ability to obtain such registration within six months of employment). Ten or more years of design/engineering experience and the ability to sign engineering documents on behalf of the company. Strong technical verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in reading technical literature and engineering plans. Capability to operate technical analysis equipment and computer systems. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, able to apply professional knowledge to routine and non‑routine tasks and engineering activities. Current registered Professional Engineer certification in relevant state(s), with additional specialty certifications or advanced education preferred. Previous water/wastewater experience required. Compensation Range $104,000.00 – $166,000.00. The final agreed-upon compensation reflects individual education, qualifications, skills, prior work experience, competencies, and geographic location. The total annual compensation package may include a base salary and eligibility to participate in performance and discretionary incentive bonus programs after a qualifying period.
