About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months of PCU RN experience required License: Registered Nurse license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with tracheostomies, cardiac drips, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, blood products, wound care/dressing changes, and management of central lines Description: Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit. This unit has 32 beds available. The patient population may include individuals who do not require mechanical ventilation. Common diagnoses may include congestive heart failure, dysrhythmias, chest pain, strokes, abdominal illnesses and infections, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, acute kidney injury/chronic kidney disease, alcohol withdrawal, and intravenous drug abuse. The typical RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with the possibility of 1:5 depending on patient acuity. Patients are supported by Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants, with specific ratios as applicable. Support staff includes charge nurses to assist with nursing care and other healthcare professionals available for assistance. Phlebotomy services are available, with non-nursing staff performing draws. The department operates with a 24/7 respiratory therapy team, hospitalists, and intensivists. Telemetry monitoring is available both at the bedside and centrally. Floating may be required according to regional needs, within the scope of practice. Shift schedules will include every other weekend rotation and a possibility of being called back for low census. Travelers are expected to work a certain percentage of holidays. Requests for time off may be approved within specified limits. This is a family-oriented unit culture.
