Maintenance Director

University Of Dayton Intramural Sports And Camp Assistant Director The University of Dayton, Campus Recreation Department seeks a self-motivated, enthusiastic and proactive professional who is committed to a development philosophy for staff and participants in the provision of a comprehensive, inclusive and quality Intramural Sports program for the UD community, of which over 50% of undergraduate students participate with over 1,600 teams annually. This is a full-time, benefit eligible position offering health and dental, retirement, paid time off, holidays, and tuition assistance. In tandem with the assistant director, outdoor recreation and camp, this professional will lead and supervise a nine-week youth recreation summer camp program designed to inspire campers to discover their best selves through playful inquiry, cooperative learning and positive group culture. This individual has responsibilities that encompass a wide variety of administrative, supervisory, programming, planning, developing, coordinating, assessment and oversight of all aspects of the intramural/extramural and camp programs. With a variety of team and individual leagues and tournaments this position will provide support and facilitate the overall success of the programs to include day-to-day operation and long-term objectives. The duties include, but are not limited to, knowledge of recreation, Intramural and competitive sports including devising and refining rules, programming and calendar development, administration of contests and game management, creation of developmentally appropriate curriculum, parent/guardian engagement, implementation of policies and procedures including fiscal management and risk mitigation, promotion of programs, and the creation of an innovative and engaging environment to drive participant retention. Further, the assistant director of intramural sports and camp is expected to display a commitment to understand and support the University of Dayton's distinctive Marianist tradition and educational vision, as well as a willingness to model institutional values of service to others, community, and diversity. Duties and Responsibilities Intramural Sport Development and Management [40%] Create and implement the annual Intramural Sports calendar that includes a diverse sport/event selection, team sign-ups, team scheduling, game reporting, and championships. Establish a presence through regular visitations to competitions. Coordinate, schedule, and conduct team captain meetings as needed. Actively recruit underrepresented and special population individuals to participate in the program, and work collaboratively with Housing and Residential Life and other Student Development units on programming. Be attentive to and incorporate current trends in recreation activities to capture the interest of the evolving University community. Devise new activities and generate the appropriate rules and procedures to facilitate. Participate in the planning, development, and on-site management of regional/national extramural events and tournaments. Develop and implement accurate written records (manuals, etc.) that guide program operations and support compliance with program, departmental, university, and national guidelines; to include consistent application and revision of policies and procedures to include participant eligibility, sportsmanship, protests, and player conduct. Manage the web-based registration system, IMLeagues. Monitor game forfeits and assess forfeit fees. Develop learning outcomes for all programs and conduct assessments to measure learning towards those goals. Prepare and submit monthly and annually statistical reports of the activities and tournament events. Youth Camp Program Development and Management [20%] In tandem with the assistant director, outdoor recreation and camp, coordinate and oversee the planning, supervision, and administration of the multifaceted, recreation-based summer camp for children age 6-12, incorporating sports, activities, games, arts and crafts, and session-specific learning outcomes based on industry standards with programmatic involvement from Campus Recreation professional staff. Develop and implement accurate written records (parent handbooks, enrollment tracking, etc.) that guide program operations and support compliance with program, departmental, university, and national guidelines. Create developmentally appropriate curriculum surrounding specified camp session themes. Schedule summer camp program activities, special events, and field trips. Personnel and Leadership Development [15%] Provide dynamic, hands-on leadership and mentoring. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate a student staff of over 90 individuals to include intramural officials, office assistants, competitive sports supervisors, camp counselors and camp supervisors. Develop job responsibilities and expectations for each employee and provide the supervision to ensure employees are knowledgeable about equipment use, policies and procedures, officiating mechanics and rules, and safety requirements. Demonstrate and teach conflict management skills to the entire competitive sports student staff. Monitor and submit all payroll reports for employees. Develop and implement monthly in-service trainings for student staff and maintain staff manuals. Scheduling [10%] Ensure scheduling of adequate safety, game management and supervisory personnel for intramural activities to include supervisors and officials. Work collaboratively with colleagues to coordinate schedules of all venues to accommodate space usage for sports clubs, intramural sports and informal recreation usage. Schedule all intramural activities on an annual basis utilizing available open spaces, fields, courts, etc. Share responsibility for the monitoring of the 5.6 acre outdoor turf field to include field lining, maintenance needs, quality control and golf cart utilization; communicating essentials accordingly with the senior assistant director, sport clubs. Fiscal Operations [5%] Develop, oversee and administer the budget for the intramural and extramural programs. Along with the assistant director, outdoor recreation and camp, develop, oversee and administer the budget for the camp program. Conduct regular analysis of market conditions in order to recommend an operational budget for the various program areas and fee structures. Maintain financial records of program revenues and expenses, ensuring budgetary control. Determine and recommend for purchase equipment, supplies, materials, uniforms, etc. needed for the operation of the programs. Coordinate all equipment purchase, maintenance and inventory. Contribute to the ongoing development and facilitation of the department's comprehensive risk management plan. Maintain a full knowledge of current risk management standards and practices in Intramurals. Perform regular inspections and checks to ensure equipment is in proper working order. Assist in monitoring policies and procedures to provide for safe operation of facilities and programs. Plan and conduct safety training for employees to include weather conditions and evaluation of the playability of outdoor facilities. Further, ensure that all risk mitigation and liability expectations are being met with specific regard to minors. Maintain a historical database and records per established guidelines. Related Duties [5%] Be involved with and make meaningful contributions to departmental, divisional and institutional initiatives, as well as within professional organizations. Actively participate in student development activities on campus by serving as a volunteer, mentor, committee member and/or participant. Actively work with other campus departments in student persistence and retention efforts. Perform other duties as assigned. The driving requirements for this position are primarily focused on operating University-owned vehicles, such as utility vehicle/Gator and need to train others on it. Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must currently have a bachelor's degree; 2 years of progressive responsibility in a recreational and competitive sports environment with specific knowledge of individual sport rules, administration of contests, and game management; 2 years of direct experience in officiating instruction and working knowledge of current risk management standards and practices in intramural sports and camp programming; Previous experience working with school-aged children Articulated passion for promoting holistic wellbeing and enhancing student learning; Success working collaboratively with various constituents; Ability to work on a flexible basis to ensure coverage of game play, which includes occasional evenings, weekends, and provide service on an on-call basis; Valid driver's license with low risk driving record.
