Electronics Technician

Summary This position is responsible for the comprehensive management of the electronic systems within the facility and satellite clinics. Performs design, installation, maintenance, and administrative duties on systems as required. Works in all areas of the medical facility supporting both patient care and ancillary services. Responsibilities Perform scheduled and unscheduled (emergency) maintenance on systems to ensure they are operating properly, calibrated, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards Seek ways to reduce failures, eliminate safety hazards, and enhance accuracy and reliability Detect, analyze, isolate, and correct issues; and where applicable develop and recommend improvements Apply theories, techniques, and applications of digital electronics Provide guidance on electronic system interoperability, connectivity, and issues related to interconnected systems Manage medical center wide projects and oversee/inspect work of contractors Recommend new or alternate systems to resolve an existing issues Serves as technical advisor and consultant to equipment users, hospital equipment committee, and hospital leadership in the evaluation and purchase of new systems to meet current and projected needs of the medical center Prepare written briefs, white papers and status reports Work Schedule: Sunday- Thursday, 5:00am-1:00pm and Tuesday - Saturday, 5:00am-1:00pm (subject to change based on facility needs) Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/01/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-10. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Individual Occupational Requirements: Applicants who meet the Individual Occupational Requirements described below are fully qualified for the specified entry grade and must also meet the specialized experience. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above) include: Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) listed above, you must also meet the below minimum qualifications for this position You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-10 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of electrical and electronic systems, including (but not limited to): Closed Circuit TV (CCTV), fire alarm systems, automatic doors, 2-way radios, physical access control systems, tube transport systems, anti-ligature systems, gates, ADA doors, automatic transport systems, and burglar alarm systems. Experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and upgrading complex electronic and physical security systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with site requirements. Experience applying knowledge of the theories, techniques, and applications of electricity, advanced analog and digital electronics, microprocessor theory, and computer/electronics technology. Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation required for effective system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Experience with relevant safety protocols and regulatory standards, including ADA requirements and life safety codes, ensuring all work is performed safely and within compliance guidelines. Strong interpersonal skills for communicating with team members, stakeholders, vendors, and system end-users; ability to document work performed and give feedback on system performance.
