RN Clinical Nurse II (Per Diem)- Surgical/Trauma Critical Care Unit

Job Overview The Surgical Trauma Critical Care Unit (STCCU) is located in the new state‑of‑the‑art North Carolina Surgical Hospital. It is a fast‑paced, Level 1 Trauma certified, Beacon Gold Award for Excellence designated, 40‑bed unit that specializes in the care of critically injured trauma and surgical patients, including transplant, plastic, oncology, obstetrics, gynecology, gastrointestinal, and orthopedics. Teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration are hallmarks of the unit while providing expert “Carolina Care” to patients and families. Our ONE GREAT TEAM facilities admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. STCCU is currently accepting applications for experienced candidates with an interest in working per diem. Key Features Excellent nurse‑to‑patient ratios: 1:2 or 1:3 Supportive schedule: three 12‑hour shifts per week (36 hours), with day/night/weekend rotations Collaborative team: work alongside a highly skilled, compassionate care team dedicated to providing optimal patient outcomes Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self; attend education programs; use patient education materials; assess readiness to learn of patient/family/caregivers; assess developmental level. Evaluation of Care – identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance as needed; participate in discussions with interdisciplinary team; communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing as required; utilize organizational policies and procedures; organize and prioritize care; consult with resources in a timely fashion regarding complex care issues and high‑risk discharge planning. Leadership – develop goals to promote professional growth; achieve goals within identified time frame; promote intra/inter‑departmental collaboration; participate in unit goals and performance improvement; use communication systems; promote cost‑effective care; give feedback to co‑workers; promote a safe, clean, and secure environment. Patient Assessment – recognize data from complex situations to determine priorities; include physical, psychosocial, education, and safety needs; synthesize assessment data; assess and anticipate discharge needs; develop relationships with families. Planning – collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; communicate planning; address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for complex patients. Research – read journals containing applicable studies; bring ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Education and Experience Requirements Education: Graduation from a school of professional nursing. Licensure/Certification: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Professional Experience: One (1) year of relevant and current experience.
