Audiology Externship at Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center

Externship Overview 12‑month (2080 hour) externship at a busy VA clinic in Aurora, CO, serving adult and geriatric Veterans. Three positions are available. Travel to Golden CBOC for PTM is required. Program Details Participate in the GRECC program, clinic improvement project, and poster presentation at JDVAC or a local conference. Start date: May 2027 (tentative). Stipend and benefits provided. Travel to a satellite center (25 miles to Golden CBOC) for a PTM rotation. Vacation: 13 days. Estimated hours: 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Clinical Experience Regular adult hearing evaluations, tympanometry, acoustic reflexes, otoacoustic emissions, hearing aid selection, fitting, dispensing, and troubleshooting. Tinnitus evaluation and rehabilitation. Vestibular assessments and rehabilitation. Cochlear implant evaluations during a 2‑month rotation. CAPD evaluations during a 2‑month teleaudiology rotation. Auditory processing evaluations, evoked potential assessments, industrial/hearing conservation, and related services. Responsibilities Work as part of a team and assist wherever demand is greatest. Identify when to refer to other specialties. Demonstrate proficiency in selecting, fitting, verifying, and troubleshooting hearing aids from major manufacturers. Evaluate and treat tinnitus patients. Recommend treatment plans based on patient needs. Participate in clinical documentation and quality improvement activities. Propose clinic improvement projects and present posters at JDVAC, AAA, or other local conferences. Qualifications Superior customer service skills. Ability to function effectively in a busy clinic setting. Solid foundation in basic audiometry. Experience selecting, fitting, and verifying hearing aids. Basic knowledge of site of lesion and electrophysiologic testing. Basic knowledge of vestibular diagnostic testing. Willingness to ask questions and take instruction from multiple preceptors. Continuing Education & Professional Development On‑site CEU training from hearing‑aid manufacturers and travel to one off‑site training per year. Opportunity to attend AAA and/or JDVAC conferences, pending funding approval. Flexibility to attend local conferences with supervisor approval. Application Details Application deadline: 8/21/2026.
