Audiology Externship: Clinical Practice + Industry Insight

Rocky Mountain Ear Center, in collaboration with Cochlear Americas, offers a well‑rounded externship for graduate students in audiology seeking advanced experience in both clinical and industry settings. Three days per week will be spent at RMEC in a specialized neurotology setting. There, the extern will receive comprehensive training focused on cochlear implant evaluations and reprogramming, hearing aid evaluations and fittings, vestibular and balance testing, and other specialized audiological assessments. Working alongside four experienced audiologists and two neurotologists, the extern will participate in patient care across the lifespan, contributing to diagnostic processes and treatment planning. The remaining two days will be spent at the headquarters of Cochlear Americas, a world leader in implantable hearing technology. There the extern will work with audiologists who specialize in industry activities such as clinical research, product development, real‑time clinician support, reimbursement, marketing, and more. Responsibilities Participate in patient evaluations and treatment planning at RMEC. Perform cochlear implant and hearing aid fitting, and vestibular assessments. Engage in industry projects and support functions at Cochlear Americas. Collaborate with clinicians, physicians, and colleagues to provide high‑quality care. Document clinical findings and support quality assurance processes. Qualifications Currently enrolled in an accredited audiology doctoral program. Motivated to pursue a broad and balanced clinical experience. Strong interest in research is strongly recommended. Externship Details Primary Practice Setting: ENT group practice, Other, ENT practice and Hearing Healthcare Industry setting. Number of Audiologists at the site: 0 FTE Masters Degree, 4 FTE Au.D., 0 Ph.D., 0 other Doctorate, 5 FTE Clerical Support Staff. Number of Audiology Students each year: 0 1st year AuD rotations, 0 2nd year, 1 3rd year, 2 4th year externships. Financial arrangements: None. Interview travel compensated: No. Vacation Days: TBD. Continuing education: Yes. Attendance at conferences and other educational opportunities is encouraged, though not usually on site. Start Date: TBD – June 2027. Expected hours per week: 38.
