Project Coordinator - Safety Projects / Daylighting

Overview The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City of New York Streets. The Office of Research, Implementation, and Safety (RIS) is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to making the streets of New York City safer for all users as part of Vision Zero, a citywide policy striving to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes. Responsibilities Plan, develop, design, and implement Street Improvement Projects to improve safety for pedestrians, motor vehicles, bicyclists, and motorcyclists. Integrate proven safety treatments, including hardened daylighting at intersections, to enhance visibility for all users. Perform research and crash analysis to identify high‑crash locations. Scope and design safety improvement projects for high‑crash locations. Analyze traffic data and prepare reports, graphics, and maps. Conduct field work, including on‑site evaluations and field meetings. Coordinate project implementation and provide technical assistance to senior staff. Participate in community outreach, develop outreach plans and materials, and meet with public officials, community boards, and inter‑ and intra‑agency stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and at least two years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above. High school graduation or equivalent and at least six years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above. Education and/or experience equivalent to any of the above alternatives, with a minimum of one year of experience as described in the first option. Preferred Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of traffic calming, urban design, pedestrian‑oriented design, complete streets, and traffic engineering. Excellent writing, editing, oral presentation, and community outreach skills. Possession of a valid driver’s license in the state of New York, maintained throughout employment. Additional Information Less than 2 years of City Service – New Hire Rate: $62,868. 2 or more years of City Service – Minimum Incumbent Rate: $72,298. Remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program approved by the City and DC37. Work Location: 55 Water Street, New York, NY 10041. Hours/Shift: 35 hours / 9 am to 5 pm. Residency Requirement New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment. City Employees with at least 2 continuous years of City service may be eligible to reside in certain surrounding counties. Discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
