Join PPG as an Industrial Reliability Mechanic in Barberton/Norton, OH

Step onto the production floor where precision and uptime matter. As the go-to expert for mechanical systems, you’ll keep complex equipment running at peak performance and directly support safe, reliable manufacturing.

Compensation & Incentives

• Starting pay: $34.80/hour
• Sign-On Bonus: $1000 — $500 after 90 days; $500 after 180 days
• Retention Bonus: $1000 — payable after 365 days on the job

Schedule

• 2nd Shift: 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm, Monday – Friday
• 3rd Shift: 11:00 pm – 7:00 am, Sunday – Thursday
• Overtime available based on business needs

A Day in the Life

On any shift, you’ll move from precision troubleshooting to planned maintenance. One hour you may be rebuilding a pump or gearbox; the next, you’ll be climbing a scaffold to inspect a drive chain or bearings. Your toolkit includes technical drawings, a CMMS, and a commitment to safety and 5S. You’ll document each action, verify performance with proof testing, and keep the line running smoothly.

What You’ll Work On

• Repair, modify, and install mechanical equipment and systems across the facility
• Diagnose issues and replace/repair components on sophisticated building and production systems
• Preventive maintenance on belts, piping, filters, mixers, valves, bearings, motors, gearboxes, dies, extruders, feeders, rolls, drive chains, classifiers, mills, mechanical seals, and pumps
• Troubleshoot equipment, perform proof testing, and proactively prevent recurrence
• Apply and advocate 5S to drive efficiency, cleanliness, and safety
• Execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs
• Identify problems, determine root cause, develop options, and implement solutions within time constraints
• Accurately complete required records and reports
• Work from technical documentation, blueprints, and schematics
• Observe production equipment to detect malfunctions
• Perform basic welding and fabrication
• Safely work in confined spaces, on elevated platforms, ladders, scaffolding, and roofs

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience; chemical manufacturing preferred
• Certified Maintenance Apprenticeship or Mechanical Institute Certificate
• Hands-on experience with pump and gearbox rebuilds
• HVAC or electrical experience strongly preferred
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and CAD drawings
• Comfort with confined-space entry, working at heights, lifting, and manual labor
• PC proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with CMMS (e.g., MicroMain, SAP)
• Ability to wear required PPE, including a respirator
• Willingness to work overtime as needed
• Strong attendance and safety record
