Project Accountant - Construction

Overview We are a leading NYC contractor specializing in public works projects, including wastewater treatment plants, union site work, mechanical and concrete construction, electrical systems, HVAC, and specialty equipment installations. We are hiring a Staff Accountant with construction accounting experience to join our team. Salary information: Base pay range provided by Smith Arnold Partners. Base pay range: $70,000.00/yr - $80,000.00/yr Additional compensation types : Annual Bonus Job title: Staff Accountant – Construction Key Responsibilities Perform daily accounting functions including accounts payable, invoice processing, and bank reconciliations. Enter and cost-code invoices into Sage 300, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project budgets. Match invoices to purchase orders and packing slips for verification. Assist in preparing job cost reports and financial summaries for management. Collaborate with Project Managers and the Controller to ensure timely invoice approvals and payments. Support union payroll reporting and compliance documentation. Maintain organized records for audits and municipal reporting. Respond to vendor inquiries regarding payment status and documentation. Assist with special projects and financial analysis as directed by the Controller. Qualifications 3+ years of experience in construction accounting, preferably in public works or union environments. Strong proficiency in Sage 300 (Timberline) is required. Solid understanding of job cost accounting and project financial tracking. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
