Overview
To assist in overseeing yard operations and yard personnel in order to achieve a successful balance of customer satisfaction and yard profitability. Supervises employees appropriately & effectively.
Responsibilities
Leadership/Management
- Monitor employees daily activity and delegate or assign work as appropriate
- Prepare and distribute work schedules
- Challenge and develop employees’ performance, provide feedback, and hold direct reports accountable for their goals and job responsibilities
- Ensure timely, accurate review of weekly time record reports and employee expenses for payroll processing
- Assist with candidate selection and interview process for new hires
- Motivate employees and offer opportunity and reward appropriately
- Make recommendations to Manager regarding efforts to control employee turnover
- Make recommendations to Manager regarding employee performance for coaching, review, and disciplinary efforts
- Acknowledge, greet, and assist customers in a timely and professional manner
- Provide accurate fast in, fast out service for customers
- Identify the needs and provide the appropriate level of assistance to the customer
- Effectively research and resolve customer complaints and conflicts
Communication
- Ensure that all reasonable directives from the Manager are carried out in a timely and accurate manner
- Communicate regularly with the management team regarding inventory levels, employee progress, safety, procedures, and general yard efficiency
Sales Skills
- Understand the marketplace
- Know product features
- Effective suggestive selling and add on sales
- Share expertise with others
Inventory and Merchandising
- Maintain a neat, clean yard appearance
- Practice good merchandising including setup and traffic flow
- Maintain inventory levels and notify appropriate person of out stocks
- Rotate stock
- Manage shrink by utilizing proper procedures for cull and damaged product
- Assist with physical inventory and cycle counts
Receiving
- Know and follow accepted receiving practices
- Prepare for and unload incoming product efficiently
- Effectively report receiving variances to the appropriate person
Staging Loads
- Stage loads effectively for delivery
- Choose product of appropriate quality
- Stage Safely
- Stage Quickly
- Stage Accurately
Material Handling and Equipment Usage
- Exercise principles of material handling and equipment usage to protect company assets
- Safe and proper use of equipment
Performance Expectations
- Excellent attitude and customer service skills
- Do It Right the First Time - Strive to eliminate errors, prioritize work accuracy, seek opportunities to improve efficiencies
- Interact and communicate with supervisors, coworkers, and customers in a positive and professional manner
- Take responsibility for job performance of employees and overall customer satisfaction at their location
Safety Expectations
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures
- Complete required monthly safety involvement
- Use proper PPE when required
- Maintain a safe work environment
- Be aware of surroundings at all times

General Expectations
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures
- Develop new and existing skills through educational programs including, seminars, product knowledge training and clinics
- Willing to become a member of a committee/team for current or new programs to ensure their success
- Attendance at Company/store meetings is mandatory

Qualifications
- Education/Experience: High School diploma or equivalent and 2 to 4 years related work experience
- Language Ability: Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with supervisors, coworkers, subordinates, and customers. Effective communication is key to ensure company procedures and safety rules are properly carried out in the yard.
- Math Ability: Basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to interpret a variety if instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to use sound judgment and problem-solving skills to analyze needs to recommend the proper course of action
- Computer Skills: Basic
- Certificates and License: None are required- Once hired Curtis Lumber will provide training for employees to obtain a forklift license
