Bristol Myers Squibb seeks a Principal Scientist to lead antibody engineering initiatives within the Protein Engineering Team in San Diego. This senior individual contributor role involves designing and executing experiments to advance platform technologies and next-generation recombinant antibody therapeutics.
Responsibilities
- Serve as antibody engineering lead on discovery project teams, establishing technical direction from conceptualization through lead nomination
- Design, execute, and troubleshoot antibody engineering workflows including affinity maturation, humanization, and format conversion
- Engineer and evaluate IgG, Fab, scFv, bispecific, multispecific, and emerging antibody formats
- Characterize antibodies using SPR/BLI and related assays to assess binding and developability
- Author protocols, study reports, and regulatory-quality technical documentation maintaining detailed electronic laboratory notebooks
Requirements
- PhD in protein science, structural biology, biochemistry, or related discipline
- 8+ years academic/industry experience with Bachelor's, 6+ with Master's, or 4+ with PhD
- Hands-on expertise in antibody engineering: design, expression, purification, characterization
- Direct experience with SPR/BLI, ELISA, flow cytometry, protein interaction assays
- Proven ability to design experiments independently and troubleshoot complex problems
- Scientific leadership experience influencing project decisions through technical expertise
- Strong collaboration skills across multiple programs, functions, and matrix environments
Compensation: $151,330 - $183,371 base
