The mission of Ravenswood Family Health Network (RFHN) is to improve the health of the community by providing culturally sensitive, integrated primary and preventative health care to all, regardless of ability to pay or immigration status, and collaborating with community partners to address the social determinants of health.

The full General Dentist is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical dental services and preventive dental care in a community health center setting and in other community settings such as school-based health center or mobile van. The General Dentist works with dental assistants and hygienists and may supervise and mentor dental residents, train dental assistants. This position is a member of the clinical team supporting PCMH standards and practices. The position will go through training and orientation at East Palo Alto clinic locations. May occasionally be required to provide coverage at other dental clinic locations in East Palo Alto and on the mobile van in Mountain View.

Duties and Responsibilities To be performed in accordance with RFHN Policies and Procedures:

1. Serves as a member of a cross-functional team of Dentists that provides exceptional patient care, and performs four-handed dentistry and oral surgery.
2. Handles all aspects of general dentistry.
3. Performs diagnostic and restorative procedures including endodontics and fixed and removable prosthesis for patients of all ages.
4. Treats oral diseases (hard and soft tissue) and confers with physicians as appropriate to develop treatment plan.
5. Utilizes clinical examination and diagnostic imaging and instruments to evaluate oral health, diagnose diseases, and develop appropriate treatment plans.
6. Formulates and carries out dental treatments within scope of training and experience and refers complex dental procedures.
7. Uses personal protective equipment to protect patients, staff, and self from infectious diseases.
8. Advises or instructs patients regarding preventive dental care, the causes and treatment of dental problems, or oral health care services.
9. Participates in after hours on-call with other dentists.
10. Attends and participates actively in required meetings, trainings and functions.
11. Maintains a positive relationship with practitioners in the community.
12. Communicates with dental laboratories and other outside vendors as needed.
13. Actively contributes to the achievement of Patient Centered Health Home (PCMH) goals and organizational strategic goals.
14. Supports the department with achieving budget goals and is cost conscious when requesting materials, supplies and equipment.
15. Follows established dental clinic and organizational protocols, policies and procedures.
16. Follows Standards of Care, Quality Assurance & Improvement Program and works collaboratively to achieve clinic goals.
17. Complies with all applicable State and Federal regulations, including but not limited to, Dental Board of California (DBCA), OSHA, Cal OSHA and infection control guidelines.
18. Ensures patient confidentiality consistent with state and federal law. Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality.
19. Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient, and the care or treatment provided. Additionally, completes referrals, data collections, instruments, and other records or paperwork as required from time to time by the organization.
20. Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
21. Serves on the dental staff and other health center committees as assigned.
22. Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of community health center staff as requested.
23. Designs, develops, and implements appropriate Dental Department policies, protocols and procedures as directed by the Chief Dental Officer, which are compliant with the most current accepted professional standards.
24. Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested.
25. Participates in community oral health screening and prevention programs sponsored by RFHN as requested by the Chief Dental Officer.
26. Participates in short-term and long-term program planning for the Dental Department and the agency, including development of goals and objectives.
27. Provides consultation to the Chief Operating Officer and the Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues in the absence of the Chief Dental Officer.
28. Travels when necessary to fulfill the organization's needs and attends meetings as necessary to represent the organization and/or the Dental Department.
29. Assists in the coordination and integration of the organization's dental programs and services with other corporate programs and services for the welfare of the organization's patients.
30. Participates in recruitment/retention activities of the organization as necessary.
31. As directed by the Chief Dental Officer, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.

General Agency Duties:

1. Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among patients and staff; maintains strictest confidentiality concerning all patient and employee information.
2. Promotes and exemplifies in action, the mission, goals, policies, procedures and principles of RFHN to supervisees and other clinic staff.
3. Participates in outreach activities, agency advocacy, and serves on ad hoc committees, as requested.
4. Attends RFHN staff retreats and Board of Directors meetings, as requested by the Chief Dental Officer.

Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited dental school or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited general practice residency or AEGD program highly preferred
• Active California Dental License, NPI number, and DEA registration
• Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of California (Not applicable to commissioned NHSC/PHS officers)
• Current CPR (BLS) certifications
• Ability to be clinically fluent in Spanish preferred
• Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required
• Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges required
• FTCA coverage or private professional malpractice insurance obtainable
• 5+ years of experience in all phases of dentistry and auxiliary utilization in a clinic setting
• Cultural competence working in a diverse low-income community
• Comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings required. Knowledge of the principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to public health organizations and community health programs as well as current social and economic problems pertaining to public health and their impact on primary health care.
• Working knowledge and experience with practice management system software preferred
• Good customer service; ability to deal with patients in an effective and courteous manner, and maintain good working relationships with other members of the team
• Demonstrates good time management skills and evidence-based approaches to dental care
• Understands the overall practice mission and works collaboratively to achieve long term and short-term goals for the clinic
• Understands practice scope consistent with the mission and values of the organization
• Up to date with COVID-19 and other vaccines per current CDC guidelines recommended.

The salary range for this position is $191,360.00 to $281,387.00 annually. However, the final base salary will be determined upon a number of individualized factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education and certification levels, and departmental budget.
