SUMMARY The Electrician III works with and under the direction of the Electrical/Mechanical Group Leader. The Electrician III serves as a senior-level industrial electrician responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and commissioning of electrical power distribution systems, medium-voltage equipment, industrial controls, automation systems, and associated infrastructure throughout Authority facilities. The Electrician III is expected to work independently, provide technical leadership to other electricians, participate in the Authority's on-call program, and serve as the lead electrical responder during emergency and after-hours situations. RESPONSIBILITIES Efficiently and effectively analyze, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, test, maintain, and commission electrical systems including, but not limited to, motors, motor control centers (MCCs), starters, variable frequency drives (VFDs), generators, transfer switches, switchgear, transformers, protective relays, PLCs, SCADA systems, telemetry systems, controls, power distribution equipment, and lighting systems. Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair emergency generation equipment, transfer switches, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial automation systems, and associated control equipment. Perform medium-voltage cable terminations and splicing utilizing accepted industry standards and testing procedures on electrical distribution systems operating up to 4,160 volts. Inspect, troubleshoot, test, maintain, repair, rebuild, and commission medium-voltage electrical distribution equipment up to 4,160 volts, including switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, protective relays, motor starters, and associated substation equipment. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on medium-voltage switchgear including breaker racking, cleaning, lubrication, contact inspection, insulation testing, relay verification, operational testing, and equipment commissioning activities. Utilize electrical testing equipment including insulation resistance testers, power quality analyzers, relay test equipment, cable fault locators, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment to evaluate equipment condition and system performance. Calculate circuit voltage, amperage, wattage, fault current, and load requirements utilizing applicable NEC requirements and accepted engineering practices. Develop and design control drawings, one-line diagrams, ladder logic diagrams, and working drawings for equipment modifications, upgrades, and new installations. Produce written specifications detailing equipment and installation requirements. Enter, review, research, and process work orders utilizing the Authority's asset management system. Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordinating electrical maintenance activities to ensure continuous and reliable operation of Authority facilities. Maintain inventories of electrical parts, supplies, and equipment. Recommend replenishment and procurement of materials as necessary. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to electricians and other maintenance personnel. Responsible for approving and/or supervising electrical trouble call-ins and weather-related emergency call-ins in the absence of the Electrical/Mechanical Group Leader. Participate in the departmental on-call rotation and provide emergency response support during evenings, weekends, holidays, severe weather events, utility outages, and other operational emergencies. Serve as the lead electrical responder during after-hours emergencies involving electrical distribution systems, medium-voltage equipment, switchgear, generators, motor control centers, telemetry systems, instrumentation interfaces, and critical facility infrastructure. Evaluate emergency conditions, determine corrective actions, coordinate resources as necessary, and restore equipment and systems to service in a safe and efficient manner. Required to report to work during weather-related emergencies, utility outages, equipment failures, environmental incidents, and other situations requiring immediate electrical support. Comply with all provisions of the Authority's lockout/tagout program, electrical safety procedures, arc flash requirements, and all applicable Authority safety policies. Perform all electrical work in accordance with applicable National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, Authority standards, and established industry practices. Work safely at all times by observing all safety rules and regulations while utilizing all required personal protective equipment. Remain compliant with all training and certification requirements associated with this position. In accordance with 7:1E-212, employee shall be familiar with, and is responsible to perform the duties detailed in ACUAs written SOPs regarding hazardous substances, specifically SOP HAZ2 through SOP HAZ6. Employee is required to have Hazwoper 40 training, an annual 8-hour Hazwoper refresher courses and shall engage in a hazardous substance drill annually to demonstrate abilities related to position. This is a safety sensitive position. A safety sensitive position is a job which includes work duties in which an employees performance of the job impacts the safety of themselves or others. The term includes jobs where performing a task poorly or failure to perform it all could result in a safety incident. A person in a safety sensitive position must have the ability to perform a given set of tasks effectively without exception, on an ongoing basis. As needed and/or directed, assist the ACUA with its environmental mission and commitment to excellent customer service, to include but not limited to: serve in an advocacy role, help with site tours, attend events and activities that the Authority participates in or sponsors. Remain compliant with all training requirements for this position. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or GED plus two (2) years of related trade or technical school education. Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the electrical maintenance trade with demonstrated experience on industrial electrical systems similar to those utilized by the Authority. Demonstrated experience installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, testing, repairing, and commissioning electrical distribution systems, MCCs, VFDs, generators, transfer switches, control systems, telemetry systems, and associated electrical infrastructure. Demonstrated experience working on medium-voltage electrical distribution systems operating up to 4,160 volts, including cable terminations, switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, protective relays, and associated equipment. Demonstrated experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution equipment and analyzing electrical system failures to determine and implement corrective actions. Demonstrated ability to work independently, provide technical leadership, and serve as a lead electrical responder during emergency and after-hours situations. ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES Valid driver's license in good standing. Qualified to safely install, operate, troubleshoot, test, maintain, and repair electrical motors, control equipment, switchgear, protective relays, and power distribution systems operating at low voltage and medium voltage up to 4,160 volts. Demonstrated knowledge of medium-voltage electrical distribution systems, switchgear maintenance practices, electrical safety procedures, arc flash protection requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and NFPA 70E safe work practices. Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, control schematics, relay logic diagrams, protection schemes, and manufacturer technical documentation. Ability to work overtime as required and respond to trouble calls, emergencies, and operational needs during days, nights, weekends, holidays, and adverse weather conditions. Ability to participate in the Authority's on-call rotation and meet established response requirements. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and provide technical leadership to other electricians. Ability to evaluate electrical system failures, establish corrective actions, and make sound technical decisions during emergency situations. Ability to report to work during weather-related emergencies and other operational events requiring immediate response. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Completion of a four-year electrician apprenticeship. NJ Qualified Journeyman Electrician License. Experience with industrial medium-voltage electrical distribution systems operating up to 4,160 volts. Experience performing maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and commissioning of medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, and protective relays. Experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, telemetry systems, and industrial automation equipment. Experience in wastewater treatment, utility, industrial manufacturing, power generation, or similar critical infrastructure environments.
