Description The Parks & Recreation - Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for organizing, planning, and implementing recreational activities for people of all ages. This role also involves building and maintenance partnerships with local schools, businesses, and organizations. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the operation of sports and outdoor recreation programs. Plan, organize, conduct, and coordinate a variety of recreational programs for community use. Contribute to the development and implementation of diverse recreational activities. Meet with public groups, community organizations, and media to explain and promote programming. Oversee day-to-day operations, including janitorial and maintenance tasks during recreational programs. Purchase, warehouse, and maintain necessary equipment, materials, and supplies. Prepare reports and documents including operational, activity, sponsorship, and statistical reports. Coordinate and monitor the preparation, use and closing of park facilities and fields. Maintain and promote the master calendar, scheduling/reservation system, social media, and event registration. Design and manage social media content to promote community events and programs. Maintain the Parks & Recreation section of the city website. Develop and implement program standards and facility use policies. Monitor and enforce patron use agreements and standards. Manage professional vendor contracts for recreation programs. Promote public awareness and encourage community involvement in recreational programming. Attend community and park user group meetings. Conduct surveys and research to identify recreation trends and innovations. Recruit, train, and utilize volunteers (e.g., instructors, mentors, guides). Research and write grant proposals. Secure sponsorships and donations. Communicate important program information to parents, participants, and user groups. Provide input on budget development, including staffing and material needs. Operate a city vehicle for job-related responsibilities. Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and during special events. Perform other duties as assigned. Special Job Dimensions The position involves regular and irregular hours needed to manage sports and recreation programs. Work hours may be extended in the event of emergency, workload, sports events, or work‑in‑progress. Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent (required). Minimum of 2 years' of educational training or work experience in parks and recreation, outdoor recreation, natural resources, or a related field. Experience working with the public and youth of all ages. Experience in planning, scheduling, and publicizing recreational programs. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of City and Department policies, procedures, and ordinances. Understanding of basic management and municipal recreation practices. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook). Ability to assess, plan, and implement diverse programs for various age and skill levels. Capable of supervising youth, staff, and volunteers. Ability to operate a trailer safely and effectively. Strong planning, organizing, problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision‑making skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to complete First Aid and CPR certification with 90 days of employment. Ability to complete Mandated Reporter Training within six months of employment. Ability to complete ACA (American Canoe Association) certification within one year of employment. Ability to compete Wilderness First Aid/First Responder training with one year of employment. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age.
