Accounting Analyst I

Performs entry-level bookkeeping and accounting tasks.
Performs basic accounting functions which require knowledge of accounts payable and receivable and of reconciliation functions. Answers customer inquires. Research problems and or complaints. Creates and edits spreadsheets. Understanding of general accounting principles. Knowledge of basic functions with spreadsheet software such as Lotus or Excel. Good analytical skills. Proficient in mathematics. Ability to follow procedures and keep records.


Posts journal or voucher entries, reconciles accounts, and checks for accuracy. Verifies, sorts, posts, and checks claims, bills, invoices, and vouchers. Typically requires minimum high school diploma and 1 - 3 years of related experience.

Additional notes:
At the beginning, we will focus the training on specific requests that come into our email inbox. Once they become comfortable handling a few of those requests, we will gradually introduce additional request types. They will then begin managing a shift alongside my team during a less busy time of day. Once they are comfortable with that responsibility, they will typically have a couple of shifts each day, usually lasting about an hour each. Depending on staffing for the day, additional shifts may be assigned, but we try to limit them to one hour at a time.


In between learning the different email request, we then typically begin training on Bookkeeping Indexing. Their progress during that phase will help determine the next steps in their training. We want to make sure they stay busy throughout the day, so we need to train them on different task within the Accounting Department.


After they can manage the email requests independently for the most part, I will evaluate our accounting needs and their progress to determine if we will train them on the Revenue and Miscellaneous Reconciliation tasks.

Ability to pass Background, Drug Screen and if applicable Medical (i.e. Vision, Hearing, or Physical) if Required by Client.
