Supervisor - HVACJob Title: Supervisor - HVAC FLSA: NonexemptReports to: Maintenance Leadership Team Pay Grade: Auxiliary 9 Dept./School: Maintenance Department Calendar Days: 256 Revised: 1.15.2026Primary Purpose: The HVAC Supervisor provides on-site leadership for districtwide HVAC maintenance and repair, ensuring systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with district standards while supporting the Director of Maintenance to maintain optimal performance and uninterrupted campus operations.QualificationsHigh school diploma from an accredited high school or GEDTrade experience requiredCurrent EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification required.Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractor License preferred.Building Automation Systems certification or vendor-specific training (e.g., Siemens, Trane, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Unify, Automated Logic) is highly desirableOSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Construction Safety Certification preferred.Valid Texas Driver's LicenseEligible for coverage under the district's vehicle insurance programSpecial Knowledge/SkillsAbility to read, write, speak, and understand the English languageKnowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniquesKnowledge of state and local building codesAbility to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.Ability to use hand and power toolsAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to measure and perform mathematical calculationsAbility to work independentlyKnowledge of state and local building codesAbility to direct and supervise personnelEffective organizational, communication and interpersonal skillsExperienceMinimum five (5) years of experience in the HVAC field requiredMajor Responsibilities and DutiesHVAC Operations & MaintenanceAssign, schedule, and supervise HVAC and BAS staff in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and control systemsOversee work completion to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with district standards; review and prioritize maintenance work ordersSupervisionSupervise installation, modification, and expansion of HVAC systems, controls, ductwork, piping, and wiring according to codes, engineering drawings, and manufacturer specificationsDevelop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC and BAS equipment, including filters, coils, lubrication, and sensorsInspectionConduct routine inspections of HVAC and BAS systems to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and potential problemsInspect completed repairs and installations for quality, accuracy, and compliance; monitor contractor performance to ensure adherence to district standardsSafetyProvide training and guidance to staff on safe work practices, proper use of tools and equipment, and compliance with OSHA, EPA, and district safety policiesEnforce safety procedures including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, confined space entry, and fall protection; identify unsafe conditions and secure mechanical roomsInventory and EquipmentMonitor and maintain tools, materials, and equipment; conduct inventories, maintain accurate records, and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition; recommend replacements as neededBuilding Automation Systems (BAS)Manage BAS operation, programming, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and system reliabilityCoordinate with Energy Management to monitor alarms, trends, and schedules; identify opportunities for optimization and cost savingsProvide technical training to HVAC staff on BAS software, control logic, and alarm responseOther DutiesRespond to after-hours emergencies, system failures, and climate control issuesAssist in recruiting, screening, training, and evaluating maintenance personnelMaintain accurate payroll, attendance, and overtime recordsAttend job-related training, safety meetings, and professional developmentEnsure compliance with district policies, administrative guidelines, and Employee Handbook directivesPerform other duties as assignedSupervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervise and evaluate HVAC and BAS technicians, ensuring accountability, performance, and safety compliance. Promote teamwork, effective communication, and professional standards.EvaluationThe evaluation of the HVAC Supervisor is a responsibility resting with the Executive Director of Maintenance.
