Optical Fabricator

The Optical Fabricator is responsible for operating CNC and conventional centering equipment used to machine precision optical components to specification. This role supports the production of optical components requiring consistent attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work within tight tolerances.

The position involves machine operation, in-process inspection, basic process adjustments, and maintaining production quality standards within a precision manufacturing environment. While prior optical fabrication experience is beneficial, candidates with manufacturing experience, hands-on mechanical ability, or other precision-based technical experience are encouraged to apply. Training will be provided for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities include setting up and operating CNC and conventional centering machines, developing, running, and adjusting CNC programs, centering optical components to print, monitoring machine performance, performing in-process and final inspection, verifying component geometry, alignment, and surface condition, identifying and isolating nonconforming material, documenting production and inspection results, supporting process development, maintaining equipment, tooling, and work area, and working effectively with production, quality, and engineering teams.

Required skills and qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, experience working in manufacturing, mechanical aptitude, ability to read and follow work instructions, technical drawings, specifications, and documented procedures, comfortable using basic measurement and inspection tools, strong attention to detail, ability to identify process issues, communicate concerns, and work effectively with teams, and exposure to Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement environments.

Work requirements and physical demands include working in a precision manufacturing environment, prolonged periods of standing, frequent movement, use of hands and fingers, visual acuity, use of precision measurement equipment, exposure to moving mechanical equipment, PPE, occasional lifting, and flexibility in schedule.
