Position Summary: The Clinical Nursing Consultant II typically develops and implements nursing educational programs for service personnel. The consultant facilitates patient care delivery using the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model, coordinates educational development of staff, and serves as a role model in clinical practice. The role aims to improve patient outcomes through shared leadership, evidence-based practice, and standards of nursing excellence. Duties & Responsibilities: Participate in planning and coordination of nursing activities across clinical services; design and conduct studies to define the scope of nursing responsibilities. Assist staff in developing effective nursing care plans by studying existing programs, identifying deficiencies, and creating remedial educational programs. Analyze and outline factors essential for effective performance in specialized services; establish performance standards for nursing personnel. Identify the need for improved methods and techniques, and demonstrate nursing care methods pertinent to specialized services. Provide guidance to nursing staff on continuity of care for patients, including training for students and supplementing nursing student assignments. Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to changing patient needs. Collaborate with and support departmental and organizational education initiatives through Clinical Practice and Professional Development. Partner with the interprofessional team to improve and promote quality and safety in Perioperative Services. Lead process improvement initiatives throughout the project lifecycle, supporting change management and staff education. Initiate, conduct, and analyze evidence-based practice research to improve patient outcomes and support broader research efforts. Develop comprehensive clinical audits; conduct audit processes to evaluate practice standards and guide education, quality improvement, and evidence-based initiatives. Review, interpret, and write organizational and departmental policies to support compliance and operational effectiveness. Develop and conduct unit-specific orientation based on evidence-based best practices and departmental processes. Support staffing as needed to maintain operations. Work flexible hours based on special projects and/or departmental needs. Perform related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Eligibility to register with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation. Two years of nursing experience in the relevant service branch, with at least one year comparable to a Clinical Nursing Consultant I. Ability to select appropriate teaching methods based on employees’ educational and experience backgrounds. BSN (or higher) required from an accredited nursing program. Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit specific certifications. Current ACLS, or within six months of hire for main hospital. Nationally certified through an ANCC-approved certifier, or within six months of hire in a relevant area. Current AHA BLS/CPR/PALS/ACLS. (CPAN, CAPA as applicable; must complete within one year if not present at hire.) Two years of critical care experience. Demonstrated leadership skills evidenced by roles such as charge nurse, educator, or committee leader. Proficiency in EPIC navigation and documentation. Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word. Proficiency in data collection and interpretation. Proficiency in public speaking and presenting to large audiences. Preferred Qualifications: Four years of critical care experience. Perianesthesia experience. Prior experience with risk, accreditation, quality, process improvement, IT, or professional development.
