Director, Technology Enablement & Product Innovation Role Overview

Petco is seeking a strategic technology and product leader to drive high-impact initiatives across engineering, product, and business teams. This role will lead cross-functional programs focused on identifying new opportunities, accelerating innovation, modernizing technology capabilities, and delivering scalable solutions that create measurable business value across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in software engineering, product management, and technology leadership within retail, digital commerce, or consumer technology environments. This role requires someone who can operate at both strategic and execution levels-partnering with stakeholders to define priorities, shape product and technology roadmaps, and drive successful delivery of transformative initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic technology and product initiatives across engineering, product, and business teams
• Identify opportunities to leverage technology, data, and AI to solve business challenges and create competitive advantage
• Partner with business and product leaders to define roadmaps, priorities, and long-term technology strategies
• Drive execution, prioritization, and delivery of enterprise programs and innovation initiatives
• Collaborate with engineering leaders to improve systems, processes, platform capabilities, and delivery effectiveness
• Evaluate emerging technologies and develop recommendations for adoption and investment
• Help identify and implement practical AI solutions across customer-facing products, enterprise platforms, and internal workflows
• Support modernization efforts through cloud-native architectures, APIs, automation, and scalable platform capabilities
• Promote engineering best practices, product thinking, operational excellence, and continuous improvement
• Establish frameworks, standards, and governance processes that improve execution and cross-functional alignment
• Communicate technology strategy, business value, and program outcomes to executive leadership and key stakeholders

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering, product management, technology strategy, or technology leadership
• 5+ years in senior leadership roles
• Strong background in engineering, software development, product strategy, and product delivery
• Experience in retail, eCommerce, consumer technology, or digital platforms
• Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives from concept through execution
• Strong understanding of cloud technologies, APIs, modern architecture, data platforms, and scalable systems
• Experience implementing modern technology and AI-enabled solutions in production environments
• Ability to bridge business strategy, product vision, and technical execution
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in omnichannel retail or consumer-facing technology organizations
• Background in product innovation, platform modernization, or digital transformation
• Experience leading technology incubations, innovation programs, or strategic initiatives
• Experience building shared engineering practices, Centers of Excellence, or product operating models
• Familiarity with generative AI, machine learning applications, and emerging technology trends

The pay ranges outlined below are presented in accordance with state-specific regulations. These ranges may differ in other areas and could be subject to variation based on regulatory minimum wage requirements. Actual pay rates will depend on factors such as position, location, level of experience, and applicable state or local minimum wage laws. If the regulatory minimum wage exceeds the minimum indicated in the pay range below, the regulatory minimum wage will be the minimum rate applied.

Salary Range: $194,600.00 - $291,900.00
