PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Maintenance Leader is responsible for building a culture with an unconditional stance on safety. This position is accountable to deliver stable and reliable plant operations with a focus on safety, people development, quality, productivity, and cost in a 24/7 continuous operation setting. The successful candidate will lead the training, development, and engagement of all maintenance employees. The Maintenance Leader is also responsible for plant capital projects and serves as the PM Pillar Leader.

Reports to: The Irving Plant Leader and serves as a member of the Plant Leadership Team.

Span of Control : The Irving Site has approximately 220 employees with two manufacturing lines and an Asphalt plant. The Maintenance Leader leads approximately two salaried employees and 25 maintenance employees and supports site interns and leadership development programs for recent college graduates.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Live the Safety stand and adhere to the safety responsibilities.

• Ensures a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment and builds a culture where safety is always a priority.
• Develops and verifies risk assessments and safe plans of action for critical tasks.
• Leads and supports safety initiatives and processes to drive to zero incidents.
• Trains and develops employees to safely perform their jobs.
• Participates in work-area self-inspections and incident investigations and recommends corrective actions to improve workplace safety.

Development and Execution of Plant Maintenance Strategy

• Determines performance objectives for the plant and maintenance department.
• Ensures maintenance strategy aligns with business strategy and operations plan.
• Develops improvement plans to drive plant operating performance and equipment reliability.
• Uses the plant loss tree, critical-asset ranking, MTBF, and maintenance cost, to identify opportunities and establish a measurable maintenance improvement plans.
• Executes people strategy including talent development and training.
• Manages the maintenance budget, including labor, repairs, replacements, and contractor expenses.
• Partners with stakeholders to identify and address process-improvement opportunities that eliminate waste, enhance safety, reduce costs, increase capacity and productivity, and improve product quality.

Directing Maintenance Operations

• Owns the development and execution of maintenance strategies and plans that support business needs.
• Prepares capital budget forecasts and manages capital projects and installations to deliver committed results.
• Leverages internal and external resources and expertise to improve reliability and extend equipment life.
• Drives continuous improvement, leads root cause failure analysis, and implements countermeasures that prevent recurrence.
• Owns commitments and corrective actions through timely completion and communication of outcomes to appropriate stakeholders.
• Uses analytics to identify opportunities in maintenance costs and machine performance.
• Executes effective PM and work order programs using predictive and preventive technologies
• Develops and execute TPM & RWP plans.
• Establishes clear ownership and accountability for critical equipment areas and ensures the PM pillar actively supports AM teams.
• Maintains awareness of day-to-day operations and understands changing business priorities.
• Maintains a visible leadership presence in daily operating routines, DMS meetings, and the GEMBA.
• Effectively collaborates and builds strong relationships with production and technical teams.

Leading and Developing Talent

• Ensures maintenance employees are well trained and current on any required certifications to perform the full scope of their job expectations.
• Establishes clear, measurable performance expectations and holds team members accountable for delivering results.
• Develops team capability through coaching, delegation, and accountability for results.
• Regularly evaluates team strengths and development needs and invests in employee growth to support sustained success.
• Staffs the team with the appropriate mix of internal and external talent to meet near-term performance and long-term succession needs.
• Builds and leads effective teams aligned around goals that improve plant performance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :

• A minimum of 7 years of industrial manufacturing or maintenance experience.
• A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Engineering, Science, Operations, Business, or a related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :

• Able to engage and care for people starting with safety
• Experience leading the Reliability Work Process (RWP) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to listen to employees, follow through on commitments, and build strong teams.
• Strong process, engineering, and technical problem-solving capabilities.
