Assistant General Manager

Job Description

The Assistant General Manager manages the day-to-day operations of the Commissary by effectively managing Warehouse Managers, Supervisors, Leads, Drivers and Warehouse Workers, interfacing with Amtrak personnel. As a senior leader in the operations function, the Assistant General Manager implements and drives strategies to achieve Company and client objectives. The Assistant General Manager has full ownership of the operations in the General Manager’s absence.

COMPENSATION: The salary target for this position is $90,000 to $105,000. If both numbers are the same, that is the amount that Aramark expects to offer. This is Aramark’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for this position as of the time of posting.

Job Responsibilities

Lead, coach, train, and develop Warehouse Managers and supervisors to improve operational effectiveness, productivity, engagement, and performance.

Oversee warehouse and commissary operations, ensuring compliance with SOPs, inventory controls, WIMS processes, and safety standards.

Partner with the General Manager to evaluate workflows, staffing models, warehouse layouts, and operational processes to maximize efficiency and continuous improvement.

Direct recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management for warehouse personnel.

Ensure daily operational execution, labor planning, schedule adherence, overtime management, wage and hour compliance, and maintenance of required business records.

Champion a safety-first culture through safety observations, incident investigations, root cause analysis, audits, committee participation, and regulatory compliance.

Maintain effective communication and strong partnerships with clients, operations teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Lead managers in anticipating operational challenges, planning for seasonal demand, and implementing solutions to improve service and productivity.

Administer performance evaluations, corrective actions, attendance policies, disciplinary guidelines, and collective bargaining agreement requirements.

Monitor operational, safety, security, inventory, and service metrics to drive accountability and performance improvements.

Support and execute FDA, business process compliance, wage and hour, and other operational audits.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, DOT, and company regulations affecting warehouse and commissary operations.

Oversee training and development programs for warehouse leadership and supervisory staff.

Ensure adherence to company policies, ethical standards, and client code of conduct requirements.

Support payroll, human resources, operational reporting, shift bidding, vacation bidding, and administrative processes.

Provide oversight of administrative teams and warehouse data entry processes to ensure data accuracy and operational integrity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience leading an operations team.
• Key experience in the following categories is an asset: customer service leadership, foodservice or route sales operations, performance management, training and development of front line managers/personnel.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain DOT certification to operate DOT regulated vehicles.
• Client interaction, communication, organization/time management, multi-tasking, detail-oriented, accuracy-driven and proficient computer skills are critical to success in this role.
• The ability to work efficiently and independently is important as well.
• Must have familiarity with inventory control procedures and experience handling perishable products
• Industry background to include vending, food service, route distribution (e.g. uniform distribution or customer products), retail.
• Must be able to work various shifts of a 24/7 operation.
