Company Description The Quiltmaker Café is a nonprofit, counter-service restaurant that offers a full menu in a welcoming, inclusive environment. Role Description The Executive Chef (EC) is a full-time, on-site position based in Pittsboro, NC, responsible for leading all back-of-house operations. The EC will represent the values of TQC and be dedicated to the goal of bringing the community together with nutritious food. This role includes developing menus that reflect the café’s mission, preparing and plating dishes, and maintaining consistent food quality and presentation. The EC will manage kitchen inventory, ordering, and food cost controls, while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards. The role also involves training, scheduling, and mentoring kitchen staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment. The EC will negotiate with vendors, local farmers, and charities to arrange orders and donations and will work closely with leadership to align menu offerings and kitchen practices with the café’s give-what-you-can and community-focused model. Qualifications Professional culinary experience, including line cooking, food preparation, and experience overseeing a kitchen team. Knowledge of menu planning, recipe development, and cost management, with an emphasis on nutritious, accessible meals. Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation standards, and compliance with local health regulations. Ability to train, support, and supervise staff and volunteers in a fast-paced, community-focused kitchen. Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Commitment to the café’s mission of food accessibility, community building, and inclusive service. Experience in nonprofit, community-based, or social enterprise food service environments is beneficial.
