Animal Technician - Level 2
Merck
Animal Technician II supports drug safety and discovery research by providing comprehensive animal care for rodents and larger species. The role includes husbandry, restraint, record-keeping, and facility maintenance while adhering to regulatory standards and biosecurity protocols.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine feeding, health assessment, and cage maintenance for assigned animal species
- Conduct animal restraint for husbandry, dosing, and sampling procedures
- Maintain accurate records of husbandry and care activities manually and electronically
- Operate equipment including rack and tunnel washers and ensure facility environmental conditions
- Assist in training peers and provide feedback on vivarium operations
Requirements
- AALAS ALAT certification or higher required before placement
- High school diploma minimum
- Proficiency in animal handling and restraint techniques
- Experience with rodent and small/large animal husbandry
- Ability to follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
- Comfortable working independently and in team environments
