Field Service Technician IThe Field Service Technician I (FST1) is a safety critical position and is responsible for assisting in the manufacture, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of all LB Foster wayside equipment (WILD, Rockfall, Flood Monitoring), ensuring uninterrupted system performance and The Association of American Railroads (AAR) WABL compliance. The FST1 will interact directly with our customers on site, and LB Foster teams: Engineering, Project Management and Operations. The FST1 will be required to travel extensively to support our customers' equipment primarily in the US and Canada, but occasionally overseas.Essential Functions:Assist with the installation, commissioning, maintenance, calibration and upkeep of our customers' WILDs and other LB Foster wayside equipment on our customer railroads domestically and internationally. Adhering to all safety, installation standards, and/or best practicesPreparing the rail by drilling through the neutral axis of the railGrinding and polishing the rail to ensure a flat surface void of raised and/or indented letteringPrecision welding to place gages using Salient's proprietary welderApplying sealant to gages to prevent water ingressSoldering wires on PCBs and tag readersUtilizing specialized and proprietary tools to calibrate systemsOperating mega-ohm meter and multimeter for quality checksUtilizing a wide range of power and hand tools to install and repair sitesUsing Linux interface for commissioning, calibration, and diagnosisAssemble and test complex electronic assemblies as per documented work instructionsFollow all company ISO Quality processes, procedures, and best practicesReport all travel expenses and supply timely expense reports as per company policyTravel extensively throughout North America and occasionally overseasWeekend and/or holiday work as necessaryOvertime work as necessaryMust be able and willing to understand and apply safety rules, practice safe work habits, identify safety risks, and avoid potentially risky behaviors and situationsWorking safely outdoors in all weather conditions, on uneven ground, and live tracksSafe operation, maintenance, and upkeep of company issued toolsOperate company vehicles in the performance of dutiesOther tasks and projects as assignedExperience, Education & License Requirements:1-3 years prior field service experience preferredMechanical, electrical or electronic experience preferredRailroad or trade experience a plusHigh School Diploma/GED required, Associates or Bachelor's preferredUS Passport or ability to be granted a US PassportValid Driver's license and clean driving recordTraveling up to 75%Safety Critical Position – able to pass pre-employment and random drug screeningsPrevious exposure to work environments that necessitate the use of PPESkills & Abilities:On-Track ability:Obtain and maintain E-Rail Safe and Railroad specific RWP certificatesObtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certificateWork one-on-one with customersWork in a small teamElectrical Ability:Knowledge of Electricity/ElectronicsSolder electronics as per best practice and/or standardComputer Literacy Knowledge:Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams.Travel Ability:Drive a minimum of 7hrs per dayRenting a vehicleTravel by airPhysical Ability:Pass physical examLift 60lb regularly, on occasion up to 100lbShoveling, digging, sledgehammering as requiredUse an assortment of power and hand tools, grinders, reciprocating saw, hammers, chisels, wrenches, impact drivers, drills, etc.Sit or stand for long periods of time while workingCompetencies:Collaboration and CommunicationWork Ethic and Self StartingProductivity and Continuous ImprovementCustomer FocusAdvanced Problem-Solving Skills, Adaptability, and Attention to DetailAccountabilityThe Benefits:Medical, dental, vision benefits the first day of the month after hireMarket-leading 401(k) program with company match10 paid holidays per year and PTO accrual planPaid Sick LeavePaid Parental Leave100% tuition reimbursementCareer development and advancement opportunitiesIn return, we offer an opportunity to build a solid career with competitive compensation and a very attractive benefits package, including health care coverage on the first of the month after hire and a market-leading 401(k) program.
