Senior Linux Build/Packaging Engineer

Job Title: Senior Linux Build/Packaging Engineer Location: San Francisco, CA, United States Job Type: Full-Time The world is experiencing explosive growth of digital content and unstructured data. The accelerating growth of user‑generated content, graphics‑intensive and enterprise applications, unified communications, and increased compliance requirements, combined with the increasing sizes of most file types, is straining networked infrastructures worldwide. As a result, organizations are struggling to contain rising data delivery costs as well as operational expenses such as power, cooling, and datacenter space. A new solution is needed to optimize online content, reduce digital footprint, and accelerate real‑time and business‑critical data. Makani Networks is tooled up to pioneer the wide‑area network services. Join our team and contribute to this industry‑changing effort! Job Summary Makani Networks is looking for an experienced build engineer to own build, packaging and configuration of kernel and system utilities for the Makani Optimization line of products. The candidate will create a build infrastructure that is both extensible and flexible, and work closely with the development team to provide support for production builds. Additional responsibilities include maintaining and extending the appliance install/upgrade tools and procedures. Job Responsibilities Define and maintain system kickstart tools. Design and maintain appliance install and upgrade tools. Configure Linux for high performance as a Makani appliance. Create and maintain tools for system imaging; these tools will be used internally and by Makani partners to image systems. Qualifications Minimum 10 years of experience with Linux based products. Hands‑on experience with PXE boot or other network boot technology. Hands‑on experience configuring and debugging boot‑loaders such as GRUB. Strong knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl.
