Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night 3x12 Hour Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years of experience required License: Valid Nursing License Certifications: BLS required; ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration preferred Must-Have: Experience in an inpatient setting is required, including Med/Surg, colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line management, and more. Description: We are seeking a Medical Surgical RN for our oncology clinic. This unit cares for and monitors patients who have received chemotherapy. The team is looking for travelers who are already chemotherapy certified or willing to obtain the required certification. All travelers and staff will receive onsite training to ensure they feel comfortable, confident, and prepared to care for the patient population. The required certification is the ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration. This certification consists of an approximately 10-hour, self-paced course followed by an open-book test. The onsite team is very supportive and available to help travelers navigate the certification and testing process. As part of the Cancer Institute, the unit provides free access to a variety of oncology and chemotherapy education courses, many of which can be applied toward CEUs. This is a great opportunity for travelers who are already chemotherapy certified, as well as those interested in expanding their oncology experience and gaining additional skills and education. Call-offs or additional time-off on the unit may result in cancellation of the contract. Target patient ratios are approximately 1:6. Contract staff will rotate every other weekend and may be required to float to similar units and alternate care locations. Contract staff will also be assigned to work during disaster events or mass casualty situations. Daily census is typically around 42, with possible higher ratios during increased patient volumes. This unit specializes in the management of various chemotherapy and biotherapy administration routes, including IV, PO, or injection. Primary patient diagnoses include AKI, cancer, septic shock, and diabetic foot ulcers. Additional preferred skills include CPI, charge nurse experience, and OCN certification. Unit systems include PYXIS and EPIC for medication management, documentation, and communication. Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty. All applicants should be prepared to meet the floating requirements and be open to working in various medical patient care locations within the facility.
