Plastic Fabrication And Welding Technician

This role focuses on fabricating and welding complex plastic parts in accordance with engineered drawings and specifications. You will work both in-house and at customer sites, supporting prototype manufacturing, answering customer questions, and contributing as a technical leader within a tight-knit team. The position requires strong hands-on skills with a wide range of plastics and fabrication equipment, as well as the ability to work effectively in clean room and hazardous environments while maintaining high quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Fabricate and weld complex plastic parts to meet drawing specifications and quality standards.

Support the manufacturing of prototype parts and assemblies, collaborating directly with customers on design and fabrication opportunities.

Field customer questions related to work, processes, and technical requirements, both in-house and at customer sites.

Demonstrate initiative in training and mentoring others, and act as a leader within the fabrication team.

Work effectively as part of a tight-knit, competent group, contributing to a collaborative and high-performance team environment.

Engage in cross-functional teams built from other departments to achieve common objectives.

Identify and weld different plastics, including WPP, NPP, all PVC material, FRPP, PE, Polycarbonate, CPVC, PVDF, FM4910, Acetal, Acrylics, PET, PEEK, UHMW, HDPE, PTFE, and PFA materials.

Use equipment to perform Pure bond, socket fusion, and butt welding operations.

Glue a variety of plastics such as PVC, Acrylic, and Polycarbonate using appropriate techniques.

Bend materials using heat to achieve required shapes and dimensions.

Troubleshoot fabrication and welding problems as they arise, implementing effective corrective actions.

Read and interpret engineered drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication notes.

Make threads on pipe and round rod to specified standards.

Operate a manual mill and manual lathe to machine plastic components.

Identify and build using both inch and metric dimensions with high accuracy.

Read and interpret bills of materials to ensure correct materials and components are used.

Record job tracking information accurately for work orders and projects.

Communicate issues related to work orders, drawings, part shortages, and machine errors to appropriate personnel.

Travel to customer sites and perform the same fabrication and welding functions as in the shop, maintaining quality and safety standards.

Use a variety of hand tools, including hand scrapers, Exacto knives, utility knives, hand chisels, calipers, tape measures, deburring tools, and counter sinks.

Use electric tools safely, including welding guns, hand drills (electric and battery), hand routers, jointers, drill presses, table saws, and jig saws/saber saws.

Use a variety of measuring tools, including calipers, depth gauges, micrometers, radius gauges, angle gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, and Go/No-Go tools.

Work in clean room environments for full shifts when required, adhering to all cleanliness and safety protocols.

Adapt and work safely in hazardous environments, following established safety practices and procedures.

Present a professional image in accordance with company appearance standards.

Comply with company safety practices and procedures at all times.

Perform other duties as requested to support production and organizational goals.

Essential Skills

High school diploma or equivalent.

68 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with fabrication experience required.

Strong experience identifying and welding a wide range of plastics, including WPP, NPP, all PVC material, FRPP, PE, Polycarbonate, CPVC, PVDF, FM4910, Acetal, Acrylics, PET, PEEK, UHMW, HDPE, PTFE, and PFA materials.

Proficiency using equipment for Pure bond, socket fusion, and butt welding processes.

Ability to work independently and as part of a tight-knit team.

Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a production environment.

Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and bills of materials accurately.

Ability to glue plastics such as PVC, Acrylic, and Polycarbonate using appropriate adhesives and techniques.

Ability to bend materials using heat while maintaining dimensional accuracy and structural integrity.

Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve fabrication and welding issues.

Ability to make threads on pipe and round rod to specified standards.

Proficiency operating manual mills and manual lathes for plastic machining.

Ability to identify and build using both inch and metric dimensions.

Competence working in clean room environments for entire shifts.

Ability to adapt and work safely in hazardous environments.

Valid drivers license for travel to customer sites.
