General Manager

This role leads the overall day-to-day operations of a small, hands-on manufacturing environment, with responsibility for production, shop machining, supply chain, customer service, human resources, and facilities. The General Manager manages site financial performance, drives lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, and partners with ownership on strategic planning and business expansion. This position requires a leader who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, directly supporting operations, and guiding a small team through growth and change.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and mentor direct reports across production, shop machinists and leads, supply chain, customer service, human resources, and facilities to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Oversee day-to-day manufacturing and overhaul workflows, ensuring that production schedules, quality standards, and delivery commitments are consistently met.
  • Lead and administer succession planning activities, including performance reviews, merit increases, performance management, and employee relations to build a strong, engaged team.
  • Manage the site's profit and loss (P&L), budgeting, and overall financial performance, ensuring that operational decisions align with financial goals.
  • Drive lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
  • Collaborate closely with ownership on strategic planning, business expansion initiatives, and long-term operational roadmaps.
  • Coordinate and integrate cross-functional production activities across all business units, including engineering, quality, customer service, vendors, and shipping and receiving.
  • Ensure that quality management system requirements, including AS9100 and related aerospace and FAA standards, are supported through operational practices and leadership.
  • Support and participate in AS9100 audits and continuous improvement of quality processes in partnership with quality engineering.
  • Provide hands-on support in operations when needed, stepping in to assist with production, problem-solving, and day-to-day tasks in a small-team environment.
  • Occasionally travel, up to several times per year, to visit clients and attend industry conferences to strengthen relationships and stay current with industry trends.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience managing operations in a small business, industrial equipment, material handling, distribution, or similar environment for 5–10 years.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams across multiple functions such as production, machining, supply chain, customer service, human resources, and facilities.
  • Hands-on leadership style with a willingness to perform operational tasks directly, not just supervise.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&L, budgeting, and site-level financial performance.
  • Experience driving lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Background in aerospace manufacturing or closely related industries.
  • Familiarity with quality engineering practices and quality management systems, including AS9100.
  • Experience supporting or participating in AS9100 audits and working within FAA or aerospace regulatory environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, operations, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to coordinate among engineering, quality, customer service, vendors, and logistics functions.
  • Excellent communication, performance management, and employee relations skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • MBA or advanced degree in business or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience working closely with ownership or senior leadership on strategic planning and business expansion initiatives.
  • Six Sigma experience or exposure to structured process improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to represent the organization professionally with clients and at industry conferences.
  • Comfort operating in a small-team environment where flexibility and adaptability are essential.

Work Environment

This position operates in a manufacturing environment with a typical workday running from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will work closely with production teams, shop machinists, engineers, quality personnel, supply chain, customer service, and facilities staff in a hands-on setting. The role involves regular interaction with machining operations, aerospace manufacturing processes, and quality management systems such as AS9100. Occasional business travel a few times per year is required to visit clients and attend industry conferences. The environment emphasizes safety, professionalism, and collaboration, with a practical, operations-focused atmosphere consistent with a small, industrial manufacturing facility.

This is a Permanent position based out of Los Angeles, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $250000.00/yr. 401k, medical, dental, vision, kaiser benefits, pto 12 days to start
