Assistant Controller

Overview Assistant Controller (with direct path for advancement to Controller) Location: Hartford, CT area Salary: $130k - $140k base, plus 10% bonus and full benefits package Position Summary The Controller is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supporting management with financial analysis and decision-making. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Oversee month-end and year-end close processes. Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies. Coordinate annual audits and work with external accountants and tax advisors. Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections. Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency. Ensure timely filing of tax and regulatory requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel. CPA designation preferred but not required. Preferred Traits Hands-on, detail-oriented, and proactive. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in a small-company environment.
