Location: Charlotte, NC Shift: Full-Time | 3640 hours per week plus call

Current schedule: 10-hour shifts, approximately 7:30 AM6:00 PM

Anticipated transition to 12-hour shifts, approximately 6:30 AM7:00 PM

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Cardiovascular & Electrophysiology Specialist IV to provide advanced procedural support within invasive cardiac and electrophysiology settings. This position may support adult Cardiac Cath Lab or Electrophysiology Lab procedures, or a pediatric procedural setting encompassing both Cardiac Cath and EP.

This senior-level specialist assists physicians with complex cardiovascular and electrophysiology procedures, including scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, cardiac mapping, device programming, and other specialized EP functions. The Specialist IV also serves as a clinical resource and preceptor, helping train and support other team members.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians with invasive cardiovascular and electrophysiology procedures.
• Perform scrub assistant, monitoring, and circulating responsibilities.
• Set up and monitor EP recording systems and accurately label procedural recordings.
• Display appropriate electrode combinations and measure cardiac cycle and interval lengths.
• Recognize and promptly communicate significant clinical or electrophysiological changes to physicians.
• Assist physicians with cardiac mapping, stimulation, and catheter insertion during EP procedures.
• Program pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) before implantation.
• Use a Pacemaker System Analyzer (PSA) to evaluate electrode lead signals and conductivity during procedures.
• Confirm appropriate device operation following implantation and reprogram cardiac devices for procedures when necessary.
• Assist with defibrillator deactivation for surgical procedures according to established protocols and physician direction.
• Administer medications under direct physician supervision.
• Monitor patients and respond rapidly to changes in clinical condition.
• Calculate, interpret, and analyze clinical and procedural data.
• Maintain accurate patient and procedural documentation.
• Participate in performance and quality improvement initiatives.
• Assist with developing policies, procedures, and standards of care.
• Provide education and training to new cardiovascular and electrophysiology staff.
• Serve as a preceptor and clinical resource for other team members.
• Participate in departmental education, committees, and governance activities.

Qualifications / Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited program in Cardiovascular/Cardiopulmonary Technology, Radiologic Technology, Nursing, or a related clinical field.
• Advanced invasive cardiovascular and/or electrophysiology procedural experience required.
• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT(R)), or equivalent applicable certification required.
• Current BLS and ACLS required.
• Must maintain applicable CCI and/or professional certification requirements.
• Must meet and maintain established advanced-level procedural competencies.
• Experience with Cardiac Cath Lab and/or Electrophysiology Lab procedures.
• EP candidates should have experience with cardiac mapping, stimulation, EP recording systems, catheter procedures, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
• Experience with pacemakers, ICDs, device programming, and PSA equipment strongly preferred for EP-focused positions.
• Previous experience training, precepting, or serving as a clinical resource to other staff preferred.
• Strong critical-thinking skills and ability to perform effectively in high-pressure procedural situations.
• Ability to wear approximately 1020 pounds of lead radiation protection for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and support up to 50 pounds when handling patients, equipment, and supplies.
• Comfortable working in an environment with potential exposure to radiation, blood, bodily fluids, and other clinical hazards.
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and travel when required.
