Registered Nurse Clinical Nurse Lead – TMCH Cancer Center Green Valley Job Category : Nursing Schedule: Full time Shift: 1 – Day Shift Role Summary The Clinical Nurse Leader is responsible for the assessment, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of safe and effective patient‑centered care. The Clinical Nurse Leader will facilitate and mentor others to grow professionally and advance their knowledge and skills. The Clinical Nurse Leader will continuously assess unit needs to ensure adequate resources for current and upcoming shifts by collaborating with the clinical and non‑clinical departments to coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients in a timely manner. The Clinical Nurse Leader will demonstrate professionalism at all times and will uphold standards of practice by holding team members accountable for continued compliance. Competency Attend required classes: Unit Skills fair, one mock code per quarter, ACLS, CPR, PALS (if required). Complete and submit annual competency evaluation. Keep individual education profile current. Understand regulatory requirements and professional practice guidelines. Have a working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures. Show competence in department‑specific skills to be a resource and mentor. Actively participate in leadership activities within the last year (e.g., CNL development program, evaluations, PCI involvement). Promote shared governance by participating in unit‑based council and/or hospital council. Performance Improvement Report significant events such as near misses, adverse events, patient/family complaints, and any situation that affects safe delivery of patient‑centered care. Be proactive; round with team members on unit; identify opportunities for improvement; complete real‑time correction. Ensure handoff communication during changes of caregivers during shift and at shift start/end. Assign and delegate patient‑care tasks based on staff experience, competency and knowledge. Delegate tasks to unlicensed support staff as allowed by regulation. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and make recommendations. Assist in monitoring staff performance, behavior and competency for reviews; report to manager. Ensure infection control precautions and procedures are followed. Drive one unit‑based process improvement initiative. Attend at least 25% of monthly PCI trainings. Run debriefs after codes or significant events; participate in unit SWARM activities. Participate in Joint Commission tracers/Environment of Safety checks. Accountability Complete work including documentation; validate accuracy each shift. Prioritize care and complete tasks during shift. Prepare for oncoming shift by providing full report and tidying patient‑care areas. Practice cost‑effective behaviors: avoid unnecessary overtime, implement staffing guidelines, handle patient charges appropriately, use supplies conscientiously. Assist other team members with direct patient care as needed. Coordinate patient flow to deliver safe, effective patient‑centered care. Perform department tasks assigned by leadership team. Round with patients and families to ensure needs are met; identify improvements. Ensure staffing levels meet patient‑care needs; input hours into PMR tool to meet productivity standards; use acuity tool if applicable. Monitor supplies; keep par levels appropriate without waste. Use equipment carefully to avoid damage. Deliver disciplinary action as guided by nursing manager. Perform real‑time service recovery for patient satisfaction and escalation when needed. Communication Coordinate care for patients with all necessary units. Check email to stay current with hospital and unit communications each shift. Attend at least 75% of staff meetings; participate in agenda topics. Do not tolerate negative communication or foul language. Communicate with staffing office and other departments to request staff or flex staff for upcoming shift. Professionalism Adhere to organizational policies and procedures; adhere to TMCH behavioral standards; hold staff accountable. Follow professional guidelines: state board of nurses, ANA professional standards of care, ethical practice guidelines. Collaborate with other departments professionally to provide patient‑centered care. Demonstrate effective communication, conflict resolution, team‑building, and leadership skills. Update and uphold standards of practice; be a role model for maintaining standards of care. Participate in WOC rounding as needed. Participate in peer interview process. Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience in an acute‑care setting required; two (2) years preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of critical care techniques, tools and responses. Knowledge of processes for rapid response, code, or stroke call. Some positions: knowledge of electrophysiology and cardiac cath lab procedures. Some positions: knowledge of surgery specialties and post‑operative patient care. Some positions: knowledge of chart abstraction, education and marketing for Chest Pain, CHF and Stroke programs. Skill in evaluating performance and recommending improvements. Skill in developing training materials and educating staff in critical care responses. Skill in using and maintaining computer systems: NRCPR, PC File and Folder, Word, Excel, e‑mail, Outlook, PowerPoint. Skill in communicating with staff involved in critical care and physicians. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating manuals and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence. Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions. Ability to speak and communicate effectively. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
