Math Teacher Grades 7-12 Mount Vernon City School District – Mount Vernon Steam Academy – Mount Vernon, New York Application Deadline: Jul 31, 2026 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time) Posted: Jul 06, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Sep 1, 2026 Position Type: Full-Time Job Description Mathematics teachers in Mount Vernon City School District (MVCSD) work with a diverse range of students to develop Math 7, Math 8, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Statistics, and AP Calculus AB content knowledge and skills through exploration, reading, discussion, and writing. Math teachers use a variety of instructional strategies to cultivate student awareness of how to make sense of, persevere through, and solve problems. At the conclusion of high school, students are prepared for academic autonomy and college preparatory work. Prepare all students for success with New York State Regents / Advanced Placement (AP) / IB mathematics exams; place an equal emphasis on developing mathematics thinkers by inviting students to ask questions, develop models, carry out investigations and analyze data. Guide students in applying their subject matter knowledge and skills through evidence‑based explanations and arguments and by challenging them to address real‑world problems that impact the community students live in. Help students see the relevance of mathematics in their everyday lives, as well as equip them with the tools necessary to be critical consumers and innovative problem solvers in modern society. Position Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; Master’s degree is preferred. A valid New York State Mathematics Certification. Proven record of accomplishment for planning lessons with clear learning objectives and a means for assessing whether those objectives have been met. Utilizes formal and informal assessment tools and knowledge of human development to employ appropriate learning activities. Strong organizational and communication skills. Demonstrated content knowledge and familiarity with New York State Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards. Demonstrated success in tailoring instruction to the needs of diverse learners. Manages classroom routines and procedures. Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals. Incorporates appropriate educational technology and media. Regularly communicates with parents outside of report cards and scheduled conferences. Attends all faculty meetings, workshops, faculty/staff retreats, assemblies, and celebrations. Maintains teacher web pages, weekly updates of assignments and grades on the web portal, and production of interim, quarterly and semester grades. Reflects critically upon teaching experience, identifies areas for further professional development as part of a professional development plan linked to grade level, department, and school philosophy, and is receptive to suggestions for growth.
