Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

Our organization is in search of a dedicated Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our team in Dubuque, Iowa. This full-time position requires a high level of expertise in both perinatal and neonatal health.

OPPORTUNITY DETAILS:

The chosen Neonatal Nurse Practitioner will play a crucial role in assessing, evaluating, and treating neonates under the guidance of pediatricians.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Acting as the mid-level provider for newborns by:
  • Assessing, planning, and evaluating medical care under the supervision of the attending pediatrician.
  • Providing accurate and concise reports to the attending pediatrician and maintaining problem-oriented documentation.
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and plain x-ray films as necessary.
  • Writing orders for medications, IV therapy, parental nutrition, blood products, and managing admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Attending high-risk deliveries, performing resuscitation, and stabilizing patients.
  • Preparing infants for transport to facilities that offer a higher level of care.
• Providing newborn care, resuscitation, and stabilization for all deliveries as required.
• Consulting with administrative, nursing, and medical staff.
• Engaging in ongoing competency assessments to maintain advanced neonatal knowledge and skills among nursing staff.
• Participating in nursing education and competency evaluations.
• Pursuing self-development through readings, lectures, and formal educational programs.
• Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and the development, revision, and implementation of policies and procedures in the Birth Center.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program.
• Unrestricted license to practice in the State of Iowa.
• A minimum of two years of experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
• Ability to work independently, as only one NNP will be scheduled per shift, covering the level II NICU, nursery rounds, attending deliveries, and performing circumcisions.
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP.
• Strong clinical knowledge, competencies, and analytical skills to develop nursing and medical interventions.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare personnel.
