L&I Office Assistant 3

Please Note: This recruitment opportunity will be used to fill multiple positions. Agency Overview The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is a diverse state agency dedicated to the safety, health, and security of Washington's workers. L&I helps employers meet safety and health standards and inspect workplaces. As administrators of Washington’s workers’ compensation system, L&I acts like a large insurance provider to offer medical and wage-replacement coverage to injured workers and to enforce labor laws. Insurance Services is the largest division, serving over 3.8 million employees at 260,000 employers. L&I’s Support Services Program houses seven production units that process a wide variety of information quickly and efficiently. The data processed by these units directly supports the agency mission “To Keep Washington Safe and Working.” Work Schedule Positions are full‑time, in‑office during the training period. Work schedule: Monday‑Friday, 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. After training, hybrid or telework may be considered. Location: Tumwater, Washington. Responsibilities All Support Services Office Assistant 3 staff participate in an in‑office training program. You will: Work closely with a trainer to learn essential job duties. Complete training within the agreed timeframe. Use tools and resources to research, identify, and key documentation for customers. Meet daily production expectations and accuracy levels. Highlights of duties by unit: Preform rapid data entry; process work injury and accident reports. Decipher handwriting and transcribe information from injured workers and medical providers. Conduct research to establish/verify employer/employee relationship. Pre‑scanning; prepare documents for scanning. Scanning; input information into a computer program and operate a high‑speed document scanner. Indexing; use rules, procedures, and research tools to enter appropriate information into a computer. Create new master data files when workers file initial claim; update master data files for all existing workers. Utilize tools to search and locate requested claim files. Respond respectfully and professionally to emails and phone calls from internal and external customers. Daily tasks may vary to meet customer and business expectations. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Typing 40 WPM at 98% accuracy. Two years of computer skills, clerical experience, or equivalent education. Ability to learn and grow. Ability to meet the needs of others. Desired Qualifications Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality. Adaptability and flexibility to changing business needs. Customer service orientation; understand internal and external customer needs. Experience using MS Office Suite and accurate 10‑key use. Time management: setting priorities, meeting productivity standards, and efficient use of resources.
