Support the educational journey of a high school student as a dedicated paraprofessional in a dynamic school environment near New York, NY. This contract role focuses on providing one-on-one assistance to a student requiring behavioral support, offering you the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in their academic and personal development.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Prior experience as a paraprofessional or classroom aide, preferably in a high school setting
- Expertise in behavioral management, particularly with students displaying challenging behaviors or aggression
- Patience, empathy, and calm under pressure when employing de-escalation techniques
- Ability to follow individualized education plans (IEPs) and work closely with special education teams
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with teachers and school staff
- Adaptable and quick-thinking to respond effectively in unpredictable situations
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, 1:1 support to a high school student, assisting throughout the school day
- Implement and reinforce behavioral plans under the guidance of certified staff
- Assist with academic activities and classroom participation, encouraging positive choices
- Monitor and document student progress, reporting behavioral incidents and achievements
- Promote a safe and respectful environment while redirecting negative behaviors appropriately
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and family members to ensure consistent support
- Foster trust and rapport to encourage engagement and boost the student’s confidence
