About the Role
A well‑established nonprofit organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to support core accounting operations, financial reporting, and grants management. Reporting to the Controller, this position plays a critical role in maintaining GAAP compliance, strengthening internal controls, and supporting audits and leadership decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities of Senior Accountant:
- Maintain the general ledger and perform monthly account reconciliations
- Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Oversee and reconcile payment and donor subsystems (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, credit cards)
- Review contracts, grants, and donor agreements for proper revenue recognition
- Manage grant budgeting, tracking, and financial reporting
- Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable aging
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Support year‑end audits, compliance audits, and Form 990 preparation
- Identify and recommend process improvements and internal control enhancements
- Participate in special projects such as systems implementations and reporting initiatives
Qualifications of Senior Accountant:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- Nonprofit accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with accounting systems; Intacct highly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills
- Detail‑oriented, proactive, and deadline‑driven
- Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset
