Accounting Manager

Elements Lighting + Decor is a leading luxury lighting and home décor retailer serving customers throughout the United States. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of our growing retail business. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, family-oriented environment, takes ownership of their work, and is comfortable managing the full accounting cycle with minimal supervision. Position Summary The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the company's daily accounting operations, including general ledger management, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, bank and credit card reconciliations, sales tax compliance, cash management, and retail/e-commerce accounting. This individual will work closely with ownership and serve as the primary accounting resource for the organization. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, proactive, and capable of producing accurate and timely financial information that supports sound business decisions. General Accounting Maintain the General Ledger and ensure the accuracy of all financial transactions. Prepare and post journal entries. Perform month-end and year-end closing activities. Maintain supporting schedules and accounting documentation. Analyze account activity and investigate discrepancies. Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and internal controls. Prepare monthly financial statements, including: Balance Sheet Trial Balance Prepare financial reports for ownership. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis. Provide accurate financial information to support business decisions. Bank, Cash & Merchant Reconciliations Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations. Reconcile cash and check deposits through Capital One. Reconcile Visa, MasterCard, and American Express merchant deposits through Bank of America. Record merchant deposits and reconciliation entries in QuickBooks. Investigate and resolve banking and reconciliation discrepancies. Monitor daily cash activity and maintain accurate cash balances. Accounts Payable Enter vendor invoices into the accounting system. Transfer transactions into QuickBooks. Prepare weekly check runs and electronic payments. Maintain vendor records and payment history. Payroll Administration Process weekly payroll through ADP. Maintain payroll records and employee earnings information. Reconcile payroll-related General Ledger accounts. Coordinate payroll reporting and tax filings. Respond to employee payroll questions. Prepare and file New York and Florida sales tax returns. Maintain resale certificates and exemption documentation. Research and resolve sales tax issues. Ensure compliance with all filing deadlines. Retail & E-Commerce Accounting Reconcile daily retail and e-commerce sales activity. Review online orders to verify legitimate transactions and identify potentially fraudulent activity. Process customer credits, deposits, and returns. Assist with inventory accounting and inventory reconciliations. Credit Card Processing Reconcile merchant processing activity with bank deposits. Investigate chargebacks and processing discrepancies. Coordinate with merchant service providers to resolve issues. Maintain accurate records of all credit card processing transactions. Additional Responsibilities Assist the companies outside CPA with year-end financial reporting and tax preparation. Prepare schedules requested during audits or reviews. Maintain accounting procedures and internal controls. Recommend improvements that increase efficiency and accuracy. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. 5+ years of full-cycle accounting experience, preferably in a small to mid-sized business. Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks. Experience processing payroll through ADP. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Experience preparing monthly financial statements. Experience preparing and filing New York and Florida sales tax returns. Strong knowledge of General Ledger accounting. Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
