Non-faculty Coach/Middle School-Anticipated positions (2026-27 School Year) Lees Summit R-7 School District DISTRICT WIDE – LEES SUMMIT, Missouri Job Details Job ID: 5751347 Application Deadline: May 31, 2027 11:59 PM (Central Standard Time) Posted: Jun 01, 2026 5:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: To Be Determined Job Description Purpose Statement: The job of Coach was established for the purpose/s of designing and implementing athletic program activities based on an analysis of the opposition's strategies, strengths and weaknesses; designing and implementing such activities in accordance with applicable rules and regulations related to specific sports; providing supervision of student athletes during all aspects of the program; using sound instructional techniques in overseeing program activities; serving as a positive role model to student athletes; and may serve in a liaison capacity for the school and program with other schools both within and/or outside the district, to the community, and to various organizations. Individuals in this job classification are assigned to a coaching position at the Middle School level. Functions: Assesses student athletes for the purpose of providing feedback on performance and determining team placement. Attends meetings, workshops, conferences, etc., to receive and convey information related to the role. Conducts supporting activities (e.g., parent orientations, recognition events, banquets) to provide information about the program and recognize accomplishments. Develops game strategies/plans to prepare the team and individual student athletics for competition. Develops practice regimes for strength, speed, agility, nutrition, injury prevention, etc., to enhance performance. Evaluates facilities for hazards to enable safe modifications. Guides other coaches in instruction, practice organization, and supervision guidelines. Identifies program needs and recommends expenditures for activities, equipment, supplies. Implements practice schedules and related events for efficient operation. Instructs athletes to promote growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Maintains records (statistics, insurance, permission forms, schedules, inventories) to comply with district and state requirements. Manages overall athletic program within responsibilities for continuity across levels. Monitors academic eligibility to comply with AIA requirements and intervene as needed. Oversees assistant coaches, managers, volunteers for direction and monitoring. Performs personnel functions (interviewing, assessing, recommending) for staff needs. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure effective functioning of the unit. Promotes athletic program through clinics, skill camps, community meetings. Responds to inquiries of students, parents, school personnel, media, college representatives. Supervises athletes during competition, travel, meetings, practices to ensure safety. Supports other staff in performing their roles. Essential Functions: Analyzes opposition’s strategies for game/event prior to and/or during events to develop a game plan. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills: Adapt to changing priorities, administer first aid, apply laws and policies, organize and communicate information. Knowledge: Algebra/geometry; interpret technical info; write technical materials; understand equipment, injury prevention, regulations, eligibility, PR protocols, safety procedures. Ability: Schedule activities, gather data, use basic equipment; work independently with diverse groups; solve problems; lead; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; enforce sportsmanship; motivate athletes; provide discipline; travel for events; work extended hours. Responsibility Work under limited supervision using standardized practices; direct work unit; operate within a defined budget. Working Environment Physical demands include occasional lifting, climbing, stooping, fine dexterity. Job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing.
