Division Chief of Dermatology

the client is seeking an accomplished dermatologist to serve as the founding Division Chief for Dermatology, with major leadership roles supporting the academic mission of education, research, and high-quality clinical care. The role is intended for an individual who is at, or eligible for hire at, the associate professor or professor rank in the clinical non-tenure track. The chief will provide strategic and operational leadership for division growth, faculty development, and the delivery of safe, ethical, high-quality patient care. Key responsibilities include growing dermatology clinical service lines through recruitment of general dermatology and Mohs micrographic surgery faculty; collaborating with faculty in other specialties to establish clinical programs of excellence with impact for local communities; optimizing day-to-day operational performance in delivering medical care with strong quality, safety, ethical, and financial standards; expanding clinical and translational research with emphasis on hypothesis-driven, externally funded investigator-initiated studies and sponsored trials; and initiating a Dermatology Residency Program with planning supported by multiple training sites. The role will also enrich the medical school dermatology curriculum through new faculty for didactics and clinical rotations, incorporate dermatology rotations into existing internal medicine education workflows, and establish co-specialty clinics such as dermatology-rheumatology to support patient care, learner education, and clinical or translational research. The chief will provide mentorship and career guidance for trainees and faculty and will contribute personal and divisional service through committee participation and community support. Basic qualifications include an M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited school and board certification or eligibility in dermatology, along with five years of postgraduate clinical practice in an academic institution by the hire date. Additional requirements include experience building, leading, or expanding programs or clinical service groups in an academic setting; faculty experience in a Dermatology Residency Program and/or Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship Program; experience in clinical practice administration or related academic leadership with strong organization and process management skills; and outstanding written and oral communication skills. Preferred attributes may include prior Program Director experience for dermatology residency and/or Mohs fellowship programs, experience in medical school-level didactic or clinical instruction and curriculum leadership, leadership experience directing a busy general dermatology practice, and a consistent research record with peer-reviewed publications in dermatology.
