Job Title: RN II - MED-SURG Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med-Surg Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Day Shift Auto Offer Hours per Shift: Full-time Experience: One year in medical-surgical experience required. License: Current RN license in state of practice required. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor required. Must-Have: Current Epic experience. Description: Responsible for the planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients on the medical-surgical unit. This position addresses age-related physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Responsibilities include care planning, vital signs monitoring, medication dosages, assessing physiological changes, and addressing psychosocial needs. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel in accordance with their scope of practice. Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Competent in routine nursing skills including medication administration, intravenous therapy, care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains, and safe use of medical equipment such as glucose meters and IV pumps. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the healthcare team. Educates patients and/or their families regarding care using teaching methods appropriate to the patient's age, condition, culture, and assessed learning-readiness. Evaluates the effectiveness of care performed and completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided. Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees, students, and ancillary staff. Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve care, services, and unit operations. Opens to change and strives to reach new goals for the unit. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Adherence to safety and wellbeing protocols is essential. All associates must receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment. Medical and religious exemptions may apply. This role requires commitment to the health and safety of all associates and patients. The nursing unit serves a med-surg patient population focusing on neurotrauma, post-operative orthopedic, and pneumonia/infection care. Weekend shifts are required, and participation in rotation for weekend coverage is mandatory.
