Teacher - Foreign Language [Spanish] / English as a Second Language [0.6 FTE] (Anticipated Vacancy) This position is expected to be vacant by 8/28/2026. Until the vacancy is confirmed, the new hire may begin as a long‑term substitute if the vacancy has not yet occurred. Reports to: Principal/Head of Schools. Responsibilities Teach Spanish language curriculum to students at the appropriate grade level. Provide English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to multilingual learners identified as English learners. Collaborate with content teachers to align instruction and support both English language development and classroom instructional needs. Coordinate with instructional leadership, coaching staff, and administration to ensure ELL students receive language support and academic assistance. Assist with oversight and delivery of ACCESS administration. Prepare and facilitate ELL transition meetings for students transitioning out of ELL services. Plan and deliver lessons aligned to WIDA Instructional Standards and adapt instruction to varying levels of English proficiency. Demonstrate cultural proficiency and integrate culturally relevant instructional practices. Integrate technology as an instructional tool and for personal productivity. Demonstrate proficiency in WIDA’s ELD Standards Framework and Can Do Descriptors. Support classroom teachers in administering all mandated state and local assessments for English language learners when appropriate. Attend district and state‑sponsored professional development to remain current on ELL instruction best practices. Professional Reflection & Collaboration: Reflect on practice, seek feedback, and participate in a collaborative learning community. Qualifications – Required Bachelor’s degree. Valid Massachusetts teaching license in Spanish at the appropriate grade level. Fully licensed and Highly Qualified according to NCLB. Meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by Boston Public Schools. Current authorization to work in the United States. Qualifications – Preferred Experience teaching in urban schools. Fluency in one of Boston Public Schools’ official languages (e.g., Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali). Certification in Moderate Disabilities or ESL at the appropriate grade level.
