Line of Business Risk Management Job Description The Senior Group Risk Specialist provides comprehensive and diverse risk management expertise to business leaders. The role leads and supports implementation of risk frameworks and manages activities to mitigate enterprise and business-wide risk exposures for key business segments. The specialist offers oversight, commentary, and recommendations based on strategy and industry best practices. Depth & Scope Top‑level expert within the company, with in‑depth expertise in a complex field and broader related areas. Advises executives and business leaders, governing requirements for own work. Integrates enterprise or segment strategy into program design, policy formulation, and operating standards. Anticipates emerging business trends and regulatory/risk issues, recommending large‑scale improvements. Provides expert advice to senior management; may lead teams of specialists. Develops and deploys functional programs or initiatives across multiple specialties. Solves unique, ambiguous problems with broad impact, overseeing standards, controls, and operating methods. Innovates new solutions for risk management. Impacts technical or functional direction and resource allocation of enterprise functions. Operates within general policies and industry guidelines. Engages stakeholders, influences change, and frames information in a broader context. Leads problem resolution for complex program or project requirements at all levels. Education & Experience Undergraduate degree or technical certificate and/or 10+ years of relevant experience. Advanced knowledge of risk management governance, programs, policies, practices, operating frameworks, and reporting. Understanding of risk management environment, standards, regulations, and mitigation. Awareness of current and emerging competitor and market trends. Ability to contribute to strategic direction and advise senior leadership. Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Proficiency with advanced analytical software tools, data analysis methods, and specialized reporting techniques. Advanced planning, implementation, and evaluation of program/project activities. Effective negotiation, problem‑solving, and communication skills. Competence in MS Office and other computer applications. Excellent oral and written communication, collaboration, and relationship‑building skills. Sound judgment, multitasking, and confidentiality handling. Preferred Qualifications CPA Certification. SOx experience. Regulatory and financial reporting knowledge. Customer Accountabilities Develops and implements standards, policies, and processes to identify, report on, and mitigate operational risk exposures. Proactively analyzes potential risks and escalates key risks for executive review. Provides ongoing analysis and reporting on operational risk and manages corrective action plans. Guides activities for core operational risk disciplines program: Risk & Control Self‑Assessment, Business Continuity Management, Outsourcing & Vendor Management, Regulatory Compliance (e.g., CDIC, AML, Privacy, IDA, CBA, SOX, Basel). Supports enterprise‑wide operational risk escalation, review, approval, data management, and risk assessment processes. Directs Key Risk Indicator development and facilitates communication of risk issues. Manages ancillary operational risk areas such as BCM/incident management, outsourcing/vendor management, fraud aggregation, Basel implementation, change management, privacy, AML, LCM, and other regulatory issues. Provides support for additional risk areas: market, credit, reputational, and regulatory risks. Serves as a point of contact for compliance monitoring, reporting, and strategic initiatives. Provides deep commentary for policy and procedure oversight. Shareholder Accountabilities Adheres to enterprise frameworks and methodologies for business operations. Ensures programs and policies meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with priorities. Exercises discretion with confidential information and escalates issues appropriately. Ensures compliance with internal and external controls, segregation of duties, and asset safeguards. Participates in cross‑functional initiatives as a subject matter expert, providing risk guidance. Conducts research and supports presentation development for management. Performs meaningful functional or enterprise analysis, draws conclusions, and delivers recommendations. Monitors service productivity and implements continuous improvement initiatives. Facilitates remediation plans to address performance, risk, and governance issues. Manages relationships across business lines and oversight functions, aligning with enterprise requirements. Stays informed on emerging trends and regulatory changes, assessing impacts. Maintains a risk‑management culture supported by effective processes aligned with risk appetite.
