Line Operator

Line Operator (1st Shift)

This role is part of a rotating Line 1 Operating Team in a manufacturing environment. You will work across four different positions during each shift to support the full production process, from placing blades on the conveyor through heat treatment and cooling, to painting and final quality inspection before shipment. You will contribute to a clean, organized, and team-oriented production line where attention to detail and safe operation are essential.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through four Line 1 positions during an 8-hour shift as part of a coordinated team process.
• Place blades on a conveyor line that feeds them through an oven or furnace according to established procedures.
• Use a hand tool or grabber to safely remove blades from the conveyor and place them into a press.
• Remove parts from the press and place them in a quench to cool, following all safety and quality guidelines.
• Hang cooled parts on a line for painting and ensure they are properly positioned and spaced.
• Remove painted parts from the line and prepare them for quality inspection and shipment.
• Inspect parts for quality defects and ensure only products that meet standards move forward in the process.
• Follow the operating rhythm and work instructions provided during training to maintain consistent production flow.
• Use measuring tools and basic production equipment as needed to support assembly and machine operation.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and support overall line cleanliness and organization.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate clearly to keep the line running smoothly.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, especially when working near the furnace/oven and other machinery.

Essential Skills

• Experience in general labor, production, or manufacturing environments.
• Ability to perform assembly, assembly line work, and basic machine operation.
• Strong attention to detail, especially when inspecting parts for quality defects.
• Ability to use measuring tools accurately.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills to follow processes and troubleshoot basic issues.
• Proven ability to work effectively as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to stand on your feet for 10-hour shifts while rotating among stations.
• Ability to lift 40–50 lbs safely and repeatedly as needed.
• Comfort working in areas that can become hot, particularly near the furnace/oven.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a production, assembly line, or machine operation role.
• Familiarity with operating rhythms or standardized work processes in a team setting.
• Comfort working with hand tools and grabbers in a manufacturing environment.
• Interest in learning multiple stations and cross-training across the production line.

Work Environment

The facility is clean, very organized, and includes a production line, welding department, shipping and receiving area, and engineering department. You will work on Line 1 in a manufacturing setting where certain stations, particularly those near the furnace or oven, can become hot at times. The role involves standing for most of the shift and rotating among stations. Shifts are structured as follows: 1st shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., 2nd shift runs from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 3rd shift runs from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Orientation begins at 6:00 a.m. on the first day and lasts about an hour and a half, followed by a facility tour, lunch, and job shadowing so you can observe experienced employees and build a clear understanding of expectations. Appropriate work attire is supported through merchandise vouchers for shirts, pants, and protective footwear such as metatarsals.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rock Island, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $17.50/hr.
