Staff Accountant

Location: California (on-site and hybrid roles available) Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications Position Overview Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join its growing accounting team. This role will be responsible for supporting general ledger activities, month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and ongoing accounting operations. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on accounting professional with a strong foundation in GAAP, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced business environment. Key Responsibilities Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation. Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate variances or reconciling items. Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Maintain general ledger accuracy and support the preparation of financial statements. Reconcile bank accounts, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts. Analyze financial results and assist with variance analysis. Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules and documentation. Assist with maintaining compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Participate in the preparation of financial reports and management reporting packages. Collaborate with departments across the organization to ensure accurate financial information and proper accounting treatment. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies. Support special projects, system implementations, and ad hoc reporting requests as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 2+ years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes. Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations. Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and data analysis functions. Preferred Qualifications Public accounting experience. CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA licensure. Experience with financial statement preparation. Exposure to multi-entity or multi-location accounting environments. Experience working with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, Workday, or similar platforms. Experience supporting audits, internal controls, or process improvement initiatives.
