Job Description

This role supports seed production operations throughout the year, performing a variety of seasonal tasks that ensure high-quality seed is harvested, processed, packaged, and shipped on time. You will work with production and field equipment, follow standard operating procedures, and maintain strict safety and quality standards while adapting to changing seasonal needs.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process trucks hauling crop from the field, including weighing and unloading materials during harvest season (September–October).
• Perform a wide range of harvest activities, such as husking and sorting operations, to support efficient crop processing.
• Operate dryers to dry crop within prescribed safety, quality, and financial requirements, ensuring consistent product quality.
• Shell and store crop from bins in the dryer facility, maintaining accurate handling and flow of materials.
• Supply the Conditioning department with a steady and reliable flow of seed to keep production running smoothly.
• Apply appropriate treatments to seed according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
• Label, tag, bag, and palletize seed during the November–March period to prepare product for storage and shipment.
• Enter inventory information into computer systems accurately to support inventory control and traceability.
• Stage seed for shipment in the warehouse, organizing pallets and loads for timely dispatch.
• Retag in-house seed and re-bag backhaul (returned) seed during April–August to ensure accurate labeling and packaging.
• Inspect pro boxes to confirm they are clean and free of debris, and wash pro boxes as necessary to maintain hygiene and quality standards.
• Monitor and operate equipment and facilities, including field equipment, to ensure operations align with standard operating procedures.
• Maintain safety standards at all times and initiate and follow emergency procedures when necessary.
• Rotate through various roles within the area, including, in some cases, a control room rotation, to support overall plant operations.
• Safely perform general production, packaging, machine operation, inspection, loading, unloading, and related tasks as assigned.
• Work both indoors and outdoors, including on uneven surfaces, and handle physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 60 pounds.

• Experience or aptitude in general production, general labor, packaging, and machine operation.
• Ability to perform inspection tasks and handle loading and unloading of trucks.
• Ability to work in farming or farm-related environments, including field work and farm hand duties.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time and climb stairs when required.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 60 pounds and walk on uneven surfaces.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
• Ability to read English and speak English clearly enough to follow instructions and safety procedures.
• Must not be colorblind, due to the need to distinguish labels, tags, or indicators.
• Must wear steel-toed shoes while on site.
• No formal education requirements for this role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Forklift experience is preferred and considered a nice-to-have skill.
• Comfort working with production and field equipment in an agricultural setting.
• Willingness to rotate through different roles and tasks based on seasonal needs.
• Strong attention to detail when labeling, tagging, and entering inventory information.
• Commitment to following strict safety rules, including site-specific policies such as no smoking or tobacco products.

Work Environment

This role is based in an agricultural production facility focused on seed processing, where the environment may appear dusty due to corn and insecticide dust associated with protecting and treating seed. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, including on uneven surfaces, and involves regular physical activity such as standing for long periods, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 60 pounds. The schedule begins with onboarding on the first day at 7:30 a.m., followed by the remainder of the first week at 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for training. After onboarding, you will be assigned to a team working 12-hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on either the front half of the week (Sunday–Tuesday with a 6-hour shift on Wednesday morning) or the back half of the week (Thursday–Saturday with a 6-hour shift on Wednesday afternoon), totaling approximately 42 hours per week. You must be able to work day or night shifts based on business needs, with some scheduling flexibility depending on operational requirements. The facility provides 15-minute breaks for every 4 hours worked. Steel-toed shoes are required as part of the dress code, and smoking or tobacco products are strictly prohibited anywhere on site.

This is a Contract position based out of Worthington, IN.

The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $22.50/hr.
